GT4 isn't the first PS2 game to include the "Le Mans" track. Speaking only about games that I own, We can also drive in the full Le Mans track in the "Le Mans 24H" game and the first section of it in MOTOGP3 (only the "Bugatti" circuit here).

However, both these games display the track with a major difference from GT4. After the first chicane (I think it's named the "Dunlop Chicane", but I'm not sure about that), we have a long downhill straight and - at the end of it you finnaly reach the SSS (Tertre Rouge), if you are driving the Le Mans track (if you are driving the Bugatti track you'll turn right).

In GT4 the track is very different from this. You don't have any straight after the chicane, instead you have a fast left-right followed by a slower left-right sequence of corners.

I have searched a litle about the track and it seems to me that this section of the GT4 track isn't accurate. And I find that strange.

I even checked my "in car 956" DVD and the downhill straight is there (although the "Dunlop Chicane" isn't).

So, why do you think PD made this portion of the track different? Is it a previous version of the track? Or is it how the track is nowadays? In this case the changes must have been made in 2003 or 2004 ...

Anyway, I miss the downhill straight. Finding the right stop to hard-brake before the SSS was hard in the Le Mans game, and in the GT4 version I miss that.

If you want, check these webpages:

it was changed for the 2002 race (24hrs) apparently due to a request from the FIM (moto gp governing body) to change the part of the track which joins onto the bugatti circuit

That's interesting, because I can't find any track maps showing the new configuration. The maps that were referenced in the first post are the same as what I've found.

Maybe as this year's 24hr race approaches, we'll be able to find an updated map.

PD should have changed the track so that the chicaned Mulsanne track includes the esses after the Dunlop bridge, but the unchicaned Mulsanne should be straight down to the Tertre Rouge ess.

So was PD correct in the elevation of the chicane referred to? The track maps don't show the elevations of each section. I remember that same section from Le mans 24hrs on Dreamcast too. hmmm...

in driving one of the 1000 miles race in the Euro Hall, I noticed there are no chicanes on the Mulsanne Straight. does anyone know if that version of the track will be available in world circuits?

That's great, thanks! Any idea what I should be aiming for to get it?
Is it based on % completion, Skill level (licences/Spec pts) or days passed?

I went to the 24 Heures in '94, '97 and '04, and I have to say that new chicane is actually a positive change. Although there used to be something cool about seeing the cars crest the hill under the bridge and head straight down to the esses, the new corners are very fast. The section has been landscaped into kind of an artificial amphitheatre, so you can get some great views of the cars cornering at high speeds.

well you can´t really compare other games with gt4 gt4 is supream
there is nothing better than this
Don't make me laugh. The download I got for GTR whips GT4's simulation on it.

As said before, it is the last track you get. Its based on the early 80's style of the course before the chicanes were installed on the straight.

don't forget the great Grand Prix Legends (both Bugatti and 24h layouts) :)

It is "based" on the old track yes, but it isn't the old layout. "La Sarthe 2" is just the last layout ... but without the chicanes.

To all you guys that cleared me on this "first section new layout" question, thx. I didn't know of this recent change. And now that I know about it, I'll just say that I really prefered the old downhill straight.

It is a pity that PD didn't really make "La Sarthe 2" like it was when the Mulsanne straight didn't have the chicanes. Maybe in GT5 (hoping).

You're right, Duck, GPL has them. My first post didn't state it (my fault), but I was referring just to games available on the PS2.

LMAO, the guy driving this car:

http://www.mulsannescorner.com/benzCLR1.html

He is Mark Webber, a Australian. Typical of a Aussie to crash like that. And these days he drives for Formula 1 team Williams, a BMW.
Yeah I know, it was pretty extrordinary. I've got a short video of it (low quality with no sound :( ) if anyone wants to see it.
N.B. The video is of the car that actually flew off the track, through a gap in the trees and landed in a field on the other side.

GTR's graphics aren't better, they are more high-res but not better.I have both games and that's just my opinion.

gtr grafics may be better but gt4 just is a bigger and better game with 51 tracks and 721 cars
OMG! It has more tracks and cars! 111!11!

NO. If you're going to play that game, then GT has 6 cars on the track while GTR allows 56.

GTR is much bigger and better simulation.

GTR is great but it does gets boring alot quicker than GT4 IMO.
