Can we get some information on how the leaderboards work, at least as much information as you are allowed to give at this point? How will they work overall? Will there be sort options? Will there be fixed categories we can sort to like "factory" and "all aids off"? Will we be able to see friends only? Is it live (updated after every lap)? Any sort for country? Until recently my only experience with leaderboards was in Gran Turismo but I downloaded RSR Live Timing for Assetto Corsa a couple of weeks ago and it's opened up a whole new part of sim racing to me. I've never really been a fan of TT's and just couldn't get into more than a handful of laps most of the time, but being able to pick and choose any combination I like to hotlap in is a truly wonderful thing!!!

Any and all information would be appreciated, no matter how small the detail:tup:👍

Andy Tudor - "So on PC there are per-track, per-class, and per-car leaderboards. PS4 on the other hand has per-track, per-class leaderboards instead. All lap times have to be done in Time Trial mode which is done under clear afternoon weather conditions. This is so that everyone is on an even playing field and you can’t use Quick Race mode to get a faster time by drafting someone in front. As for what can invalidate a lap, in Time Trial mode it would be simply cutting the track. In other game modes it would be any yellow flag situation, or anything that results in a black flag or time/lap/pit penalty."

I would would be interested in any related info as well. A full range of leaderboards is very important to me in a racing game.

Is it true on console its just a fastest overall leaderboard, and not car class?

On DC there is a leaderboard for evey car and track, i think this is to much as it's to wide a spectrum.
The leaderboards on GAS was better by having each car class, if pcars is only fastest overall on console is there any plans to update this to car class at a later date?

Cheers

This is from the fan interview, so console is still unknown.

  1. “Could you detail the leaderboards for us? My biggest gripe with Forza’s leaderboards was that they only highlighted the overall fastest lap times and didn’t really let me compare lap times with players in the same cars and performance classes as me”
Andy: ” This is down to limitations on each platform unfortunately so Project CARS will be no different in that respect I’m afraid. There are no limitations on PC however. “

http://www.twitch.tv/deadly_dave5 is streaming project cars now maybe he can awnser, also this should be in filter on cars, track, class and aids used.
Nope, no sort options for aids. They couldn't answer whether cars were ultimately fastest with or without aids either. That would really suck for the tops of the leaderboards to be full of times with aids enabled. I don't care if aids enabled times are competitive, but in a sim, leaderboards should have a way to sort them.

There is no news about consoles. But given Forza is sorted by class and Driveclub is sorted by car or overall, I dont really understand the "limitations on each platform" remark. Does that mean PS4 will have more filters than XB1 but PC will have the most? That co soles wont have ANY filters? Its such a vague remark that I really hope it gets clarified over the next few weeks, preferably before launch.

I'd like to point out at this point that Le Mans cars all run with traction control in real life... so why would it be bad if this was enabled on a top leaderboard time?

Hi guys, sorry i couldnt be more helpful on the leaderboards, would be good if the leaderboards was set up for each of the assist settings, i.e off, on and real as in what the cars have in real life,

as for assists faster or not thats something we will have to test as always run with no aids.

ill be on tonight from 7, also want to test a long run on tyres.

Dave

Yes would be good to know if it's faster with or without aids, most games its faster without. I never run aids, unless abs on some games.

It's neither good nor bad. This is a sim, not an arcade game, so we should be able to sort leaderboards as a minimum to remove all aids and as a minimum, another sort for factory settings. It'll be a true shame if using aids makes you a faster driver and the leaderboards can't be sorted to remove aids from the equation. I don't care what aids anyone uses, but in a sim I should not have to compete on leaderboards with drivers using aids. Use all the aids you want, just let me sort the leaderboards to compare my times against those either not using them at all, or using factory car settings.

Coming from forza I know that at least on the Xbox version, with drafting and possibly light contact not decertifying a lap time that "leaderboard warriors" will shamelessly push the boundaries of what is legal.

Unless leaderboard times are only able to be posted in some sort of hot lap mode where you can only race by yourself, with times run while not in this hot lap mode saved to some sort of local leaderboard. Don't be surprised to find people having their friends drive in front in a faster car to draft or possibly even have a friend push them down a straightaway depending on how sensitive the lap decertification mechanism is to light and/or repeated contact.

Not saying this bothers me or needs fixed immediately or is even game breaking, although it may be game breaking to some. Just something to potentially look out for

Yeah, those development leaderboards were what I was referring to. You can only set a time on there in time trial mode, so no drafting and same conditions for everyone, except for setups (excluding fuel, which will again be the same for everyone: fuel is a fix XX kilos with usage disabled).

Free practice times also count. I did a few laps in the Aston GT3 on Nürburgring in free practice and my time appears on this leaderboard. I didn't drive this combination in time trial

Just thinking about this i wont be testing assists out on twitch as i dont want to open a can of worms etc and not sure if WMD will want that, sorry guys.

also them aids are designed to make race cars faster in real life, thats the whole point of them, but takes alot less skill and effort.

also where do we stop, do we do seperate boards for soft, medium, hard tyres, what if my track temp is 30c and yours is 20c? i run 1 lt of fuel with fuel useage set to off etc. its a never ending situation.

Does the game keep some sort of local leaderboard or do I have to go into hot lap or free practice to know what my best times are?

Well lets see what the game communicates to the leaderboard server

Driving model: Pro/Intermediate/Novice
Setup: Custom/Default
Controller: Wheel/Gamepad
Camera: In-car/External
Steering assist: Off/on
Braking assist: Off/on
ABS: Off/on
Traction control: Off/on
Stability control: Off/on
Damage disabled: Off/on
Automatic gears: Off/on
Automatic clutch: Off/on
Driving line: Off/on

All we need at the game side of things is a couple of dropdownboxes and tikboxes. By the look of things is that there is only one database, we just need to filter the results to our liking because the database has already all the info we need to do so.

The way Forza does the leaderboards is they show little indicators off to the right as to which assists were used Auto trans, auto clutch, TCS, ASM, ABS and auto brake. They do not show if the driver used the driving line or not.

IMO aides are divided into two types, real and arcade. TCS, ASM, ABS, AUTO are all real aides. Driving Line, assisted steering, assisted braking are all arcade and in the case of GT SRF.

I see no reason any one should take issue with anyone using any of the real aides and if they are fast enough to get to the top with them then so be it. Many cars have 1 or more of these assists as standard equipment anyway and some can not be turned off in real life. I can see taking issue with the arcade assists like SRF but not the real world assists.

On the Forza leaderboards you will see that the top times in most classes are using no assists at all until you get to the higher classes and then you will see TCS enabled on a lot of them but not all.

It's not endless. I like the way RSR Live Timing does it for Assetto Corsa and it would work just as well here. You have an overall leaderboard for everyone. Then you have a leaderboard for all assists off and default 26C track temp and the default optimum track. Then you could have another for "factory" settings and default track settings.

You only need a minimum of 3 sets of parameters to make it work. So long as we all know what they are and they make sense, we will adapt. If RSR is any indication, the "pro" setting of everything off and tire wear and fuel consumption on is very popular.
