I know this may not be the ideal place for this but the leaderboard forum seems dead and does not even appear to have anyone paying attention there,so...

I tried posting times this morning but cannot find the mechanism to do so - if it is there please point me in the right direction; if, on the other hand, the leaderboards are not working - which appears to be the case - might I suggest some sort of banner / sticky / etc.

I thought so, as I did read through that thread.

That is why I would think that some sort of notice to that effect would be useful. Given the very high quality of this board it is somewhat disappointing to find a section that does not work - because my going-in assumption here is that if it's not working for me its because I'm doing something wrong rather than the board has issues.
 
Yes. That has been suggested before. Though I don't know why the appropriate action hasn't been taken, I know Jordan is working on the Issue now. Honestly, I don't think is that much of a deal. Besides you can always find information regarding this issue by a simple quick search. :)

Ozzy, my point is that with the Leaderboard being prominently featured on the home page the way to know that it is broken is not to try to post a time, as I did, then be unable to, then go to its board and find other "I can't post my time" threads.

The thread that Famine pointed me to - which I had previously read when I did a search - contains a response from Jordan from nine months ago that merely says he knows there is a problem but is unsure what to do.

Look, I'm no web designer so I have no idea what's easy to do and what's hard, but all I am suggesting is to add something like "Not currently accepting new times" underneath "Leaderboard"
 
I think leaderboard forum still the best option to post your time.

I think the leaderboard has too many problem that creating from scratch is better solution. I want to offer my help but I don't know how to create vbulletin plugin in order to make this forum user can directly use their account in leaderboard section. The instruction for creation of vbulletin plugin is restricted only for vbulletin owner............

My leaderboard solution is here. Beta, no car or track or driver info yet, curently support GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4. There can be moderator where he can add another subcategory for maybe another kind of race. I curently use it to keep my personal record and the history of GT4 tuning competition.


If Jordan want it, I have no problem giving my leaderboard code (I already pm my database structure months ago).

I utilize forum login for my leaderboard, so submit if you want to use it.
 
To say that I have a strong distaste for the Leaderboards would be an understatement, but it has been absolutely nothing but a thorn in my side ever since its inception. It was expensive and difficult to develop, difficult to manage and maintain, and never popular enough to justify half of the work involved with it. To be completely honest, I have no excuse for my own neglect of that section of the site, aside from the fact that when I do have time to work on GTPlanet, I personally want to spend it working on something else. Of thousands of visitors, only a handful have ever expressed interest or concern over the return of the Leaderboards, reinforcing my ambivalence. With that said, I agree that there is no excuse for not making the status of the Leaderboards more clear, so at this time I'm going to change the message on the main Leaderboards page.

Sucahyo, I apologize, but I'm afraid I don't remember discussing the code or database structure for your software via PM? :confused:
 
Maybe you busy that at time, I pm it at 8:55 AM Jun 08 2006 (GMT +7) with title leaderboard suggestion. I originally send it to Duke which says will notify you, but thinking I should send a copy to you too.

I will pm my code and db structure later.

I create my leaderboard trying to implement what people want to include in current leaderboard. I end up creating forum like leaderboard.

I have also PM'd Jordon with a leaderboard suggestion, so at least there are options.
