How could right hand drive be more natural? I'm right-handed, so it's easier to shift with my right hand, right? It makes sense that, regardless of where you live, left hand drive is actually easier to do for the majority of the population (those who are right-handed).
You're assuming that the controls were in the middle of the car. If you look at some vintage cars you'll see that the driver is on the right, and the gear lever/hand brake is on the outside of the car, not in the middle.

Also, sometimes the gearshift is a pedal. (well, okay, one car I can think of).
(Do motorcycles ever have their controlls reversed?)
What developmental oddity resulted in this strange fundamental difference between countries anyway?

All modern bikes have the gearchange on the left pedal. Most old brit bikes have them on the right, I think it started changing over in the sixties...

And it's on the left regardless of country.

Kurtis.

Yes, well, I don't drive British cars from the 1920s. :p

I've only ever driven right hand drive, bonus is I'm left handed! Pretty much the only LHD cars we get here are old muscle cars people import from the US and a few old Euro cars like porsches.

I wish it was universally on the same side. If I have to adjust to right hand drive in order for this to happen, I would. :D
