Was that grenade who went flying straight through that huge mess? Give him a medal or something.

Chuyler re-entered the track where I had planned to start braking at. I then swirved around him, saw the other two taking the turn and my only choice was to barrel through then pull the e-brake. I knew I would have taken at least one person out or myself had I not gotten lucky and got that right.

Did you guys run into Grenade and I on your final lap as we were crawling along? Or were all of you on the lead lap?

I don't remember a problem passing your or Grenade's zombies. I passed Baldwin just before he finished the race.

Something has occured to me though. This is only my second league. But between this and the open lobbies I've been in, this was the first time I've actually been racing.

As to this week's race, I won't get as much practice as I did for last week's. I clearly won't be as clean. And I need clean. My car is fast, but there ain't much more I can get out of it as far speed goes.

What do you mean "actually been racing"? Do you mean wheel to wheel?

I dont have a lot of time to practice either. I'm just hoping the pace is slow to start so i can get a feel for my car and not fall too far behind. Whoever can negotiate the corkscrew cleanly 60 times should do well this race.

I'm now officially touch and go wednesday, my PS3 took a dump last night. I seems like the the cooling fan isn't working anymore and it just shuts down after about 15 mins with a flashing red light. I'm going to try and get it opened up and fixed, but with today being a holiday here I think I am pooched.

anyone have this issue before?

Greg

What kind of lap times are you guys with AWD running on Laguna Seca?

I'm all over the place between 1:35 and 1:37. I can't seem to find the right selection of mods for my car. This track is really about the driving line and I'm having trouble getting the car to turn in consistently unless I take the entry to most turns very slow. Turn 9 is tough for my car. It pushes on entry but as soon as the outside tire goes, the YAW control turns the car for me. That might be fine for a qualifying lap but I need to find a way around that turn that doesn't involve cooking the tire to get it to turn.

Seems like I might finally be up to speed here. Can't get down to a 1:35 but consistent 1:36s aren't a problem for me. I ended up sticking with my original package of going with the S3 Turbo. The car feels really dialed in with these tires with very slight oversteer, just how I like it.

I think some people brought up not being able to finish the season due to the dates being pushed back. Would it be possible to have a week with two races or something?

Cool. I'd say 1:35 is if I hit all the turns perfectly, but seeing as my car is still understeering on entry, it is very difficult to get the right entry speed. The Yaw control gives me some oversteer mid corner to correct the situation but I run a very different approach to the turns which is tough to duplicate lap after lap. Basically I shoot for an early apex, the car understeers wide, and I get on the throttle and that pulls the car back in.

I'm up for doing two races in a week to speed up the season. However, 2 races in the same evening is a bit tough. We'd have to pick another night. I'm available basically Sun-Thurs so if we can agree on a second night I can reschedule the remaining events. However, keep in mind that running two events in a week gives you less time to practice and pick mods.

One other thing we did not discuss was time change and weather for the final two races. Should we keep it sunny and dry or do you want to mix it up?

Two races in one night would be a bit too much, imo. Normally I would say yes to weather in the interest of realism, but with all the AWD cars I'm afraid it might kill us RWD guys chances

That's very true. How about time change then?

I ran 30 laps at Laguna on my lunch break. It can be done on a single set of tires but you've really got to be conservative. I really wish you could use a tire strategy where you took 2 front tires on your pit stop. I could probably make it 60 laps without replacing the rears.

There is a very high percentage chance I will miss the race on the 1st and a guarantee I will miss the race on the 8th. FYI.

Thats a bummer.

What do you mean "actually been racing"? Do you mean wheel to wheel?

Yes, actually in the pack. I actually had a faster car than you and Diabolic and was briefly in third place! If only I could get better, I could actually race with other cars around me more often.

As to running two races a week, I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of the idea. But, since I'm not going to do well in the races anyway, I don't imagine it really matters.

I do think it is sad that so many people are dropping out or missing races. But, this was something of a pilot. I do hope you do this series again, with the rules slightly changed (though, I don't know exactly what should be changed).

I will definitely run another series afterwards. I think locking in performance points to start will likely be the approach. A target of say 450pp. Players can add performance mods until they reach 450, but any mods that do not affect pp would be prohibited for the first race as would use of ballast, performance reduction, or aero. After that a similar reward system will apply. This approach should put racers on a more even keel to start and open up the car options to vehicles that might normally be too expensive.

I think this needs a bit of discussion to prevent abuse. You think the current balance is bad...

I already have multiple idea that would destroy this system.

Ok, well discuss. Obviously picking the right mods to reach 450 would be part of the strategy...but transmission, suspension, etc would be off limits for the first race as they dont affect pp.

The only other way i see to make things fair at the start would be to pick a handful of equal cars to pick from.

Garris--your car was indeed faster, but you have to remember that I did almost nothing for that week and was planning on getting 3-4. I knew Laguna was a race a needed to be able to spend $$ on Suspension and Aero parts and because I basically sandbagged that last one...I have 45K to spend and my car is now Much quicker.

I'm not having much luck with aero. I can only install the spoiler and all it seems to do is cause my car to push even more.

Really? Although I did mess with the ride height and the aero at the same time so perhaps all the benefit came from the suspension?

Well, my point was, I let my car down. The only reason I got to run with other cars this race was because I had such a fast car (or a car beyond my abilities).

But, that is kind of the point behind this series, to me. A way to establish parity between crappy drivers like me and others.

As to the spoiler, I thought mine helped, but I'm so not good at tuning and so not consistent that it may not have.

I'm with Grenade, Huyler. I can imagine ways to abuse that system. I actually don't mind cars being unbalanced in the beginning. I think the Sylvia's took a calculated risk that they wouldn't be able to keep up in the beginning, but would be able to dominate in the end.

I do wonder if maybe we should mix up the tracks a bit more. Maybe alternate technical with high speed throughout the whole season? Or revisit tracks?

I don't think that factoring in PP in the beginning is completely bad, but I think maybe it should either be a factor all season, or not really used. I think we shouldn't use UCD prices, but maybe use MyGT.net only.

Some other things I wonder about is, would it be fun to limit it to the new car dealerships? Would it be fun to raise the initial price ceiling? Would we want to introduce an initial price floor (your car must cost at least x)? Should there be a more dramatic difference in rewards?

Being RWD, I think Wiifreak will get the most out of the rear spoiler. The only time I've ever felt it was a requirement for a car was when the car is tail happy.

If you're spinning the rear tires exiting some of the high speed turns, see if the spoiler anchors the rear. Otherwise, I think its just going to make the car push on entry.

I'm trying all sorts of things to keep heat in the rear tires but nothing seems to work. After the front tires wear down to about 85%, the rear tires basically stay light blue. By 50% tread, they become medium blue.

Get one of the center diffs and put it to around 80% to the rear wheels?

I think Rockin nailed why I think my spoiler is helping. The Subaru doesn't come with the yaw control, it comes with a limited center differential. During the first race, I moved it to 50/50. For this last race, I moved it to 35/65, which is the max and default setting.

I may experiment with that in later races. Right now I think I need to make due with the Yaw control. Low settings do nothing for me. High settings cause too much inside rear wheel spin.

I'll give you a hint. The trick is higher yaw settings and more throttle control.

I've been trying that...but I think I just don't have faith in the AYC. I found out yesterday that I've been fighting it too much. When I apply power and it starts to oversteer, I have been straightening out the wheel like you would do in a FR car. However, with the AYC if I just lock the wheel in my original position for the turn, the AYC pulls me around. Its really weird to have the wheel turned that much but if I make any changes to my steering input the AYC stops working.

Sounds a bit like the GT-R. Just need to put it in generally the right spot and get on the power, it pretty much does the rest for you

yeah that's it....but when the front tires wear down...it stops doing anything for me. I also feel like letting the AYC do the driving puts more stress on the front tires. I wish I had more time to do another session before Wednesday's race. It's real hard to gauge whether tuning settings (toe, camber, etc) really affect tire wear or if the tires just wear based on miles and temperature (ie, keeping them out of the red makes them last longer but using massive camber doesn't affect anything).

I think alignment does affect tire wear, but in a colateral sort of way. Running more toe can generate more heat in your tires on turn in, resulting in more wear, etc.

I wish the game gauged tire wear more accurately, like in 3 sections across the tire or something, along with actual temperatures for each section.

Me too!
