my mate is struggling to make much progress with gt5 and just wants a decent amount of credits and cars to have some fun racing with. i back my game save up onto a usb stick.

i know that i should be able to lend him my usb stick and he can copy my game save onto his ps3 without a problem, but am i right in thinking that he will then be playing with the driver i've named?
also, when he plays online, will he be racing under his psn name / can he even log in as himself with my game save?

what i don't want is for him to use my game save but then be racing online under my name.

thanks - hope that makes sense

Gamesaves are PSN-account and PS3-account locked - he will need to log into the PS3 itself using the same name you used to create the file and he will need to associate the same PSN account to that name. So yes, if he were able to use your save he would be playing online under your name if he played online.

Please note that account sharing is against the PSN terms of service and that not using the shift key where it is required is against ours.

I think you would be better off sending him a few cars for the seasonal events as they will unlock most of the game for him as well as give him plenty of credits.

Ford Driver
He could buy a Cervo, do some seasonals and a few hours later he can buy anything.
Things have never been so easy.

This. Credits are so easy to come by now it's rediculous. What's the point in buying a game to cheat through most of it?

This ^ along with sending him exhausts, tires and other upgrades to save him on tuning costs.

Famine, so if a save file is never linked to a PSN account, it's linked to the PS3 itself? And if it is linked to a PSN account then the PS3 it's on doesn't matter?

I'm just worried that if my PS3 ever goes kaput or if I get a new one for in college I'll be able to keep my save file as long as I'm logged into my PSN account.

Mmm... not really no.

The leftmost option on the XMB shows you all active accounts on the console itself. A GT5 gamesave in one of these accounts is locked to only accounts with that login name.

Just create a new account on your new PS3 with the same login name.

I share my gamesave between my two consoles. Earlier in the week I was doing some driving, so I needed to run the gamesave on my 60Gb console which is plumbed into my driving rig. Right now I'm spamming B-Spec and it's more convenient for me to do this on my wife's 80Gb console so I can watch F1 while occasionally pressing buttons on the controller. All I did was make an account on her console with the same login name (Famine) and associate the same PSN account with it (GTP_Famine) and I can transfer my save between them at will.
