Leo Bodnar Sli-F1 Rotary Encoder Problem

Hi There,

I am currently working on a project to build an F1 Wheel rim and I am having problems getting the CTS 288 encoder to function. (they will be used for the thumb wheels)

If you read the notes about the firmware for the SLI-F1 it would appear that you need firmware version 1.15 to get the CTS rotary encoders to function correctly, but unfortunately I have tried it and it made no difference.

I currently have the two rotary encoders connected to CONN2 which is the same connection my 6 rotary switched are connected to, and all the rotary switches function perfectly.

I was thinking of removing the CTS 288 and putting them on CONN3 which according to the manual is button only connection.

Is the CTS 288 rotary encoder in effect just a button. will it work on Conn 3?

Any advice on how to get these working would be appreciated

The manual for Firmware V1.15 (see page 2 from the manual below) indicates that you must connect your CTS 288 rotary encoders to CONN3 (connection numbers 3-8). The CTS 288's have 3 connection prongs, the two outer prongs go to the CONN3 encoder connection numbers which are paired for each encoder you use, and the center prong goes to the number 2 Ground wire connection on CONN3. You can daisy chain your ground connections.

Each encoder effectively acts as 2 buttons (when you turn it left (or in your case up or down) one button operates and when you turn it right the other button is activated). However, you have to have the encoders connected to the indicated inputs on CONN3. They will not work on any other connector on your SLI-FI display board.

By way of example, on CONN3 you would connect one of your encoders to connections 3 and 4. Wire 3 to one of the encoders outer prongs and Wire 4 to the other outer prong, and then the center prong connected to Ground Wire 2. You would then do the same thing with your other encoder with connections 5 and 6.

Haven't seen that manual before, could you tell me where on the Bodnar site it can be found.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, that's a great help :-)

Edit......ahhh found the PDFs, God knows how I missed that
