Whys it unlikely?
We have had previous reports/rumours of a possible Summer 2010.
Yep, regarding GT5 release, rumors are all proven false thus far, so I don't get it. I would like to be wrong, though.

GT5 is to be one of the 1st 3D games, why would it release 4-6 months after Sonys 3DTV sales begin?

Sonys 3DTVs are going on sale USA/Europe/Japan regions starting mid June with some models end of June & July.

Sony are filming the World Cup in 3D and although not transmitted in 3D to all countries as a sponsor the World Cup could be a fantastic global platform to advertise their 3DTVs and even GT5. This is a massive global advertising oppertunity for them.
Good point. I wasn't considering this.

Games like GOW3 / Killzone 2 have not had several months apart for different countries like previous GT games have. GT5 is likely to follow Killzone 2 etc and offer an almost global release.
after Sonys 3DTV sales begin?
I wouldn't be so sure, recalling the last GT's, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen. But I've pointed this too in another thread, so I agree.

Think about it if you were planning to release GT5 for maximium exposure then doing that with the promotion of 3DTVs, E3 Expo and using the WC starting the same month are all quite valid points.

Yep, I also agree with this one.

If however the game still isnt ready then it isnt ready but why then was it announced to release in March in Japan if indeed it wasnt close to being finished and actually releases in Q4 now instead.

This is my point, finishing the game has been the main point since March '09, his vision keep evolving and changing to exceed the expectations and redefine the racing simulation game genre as Kazunori himself stated in many opportunities. I won't be surprised if the game releases in Q4 with a lot more features and content than expected.

Your arguments regarding 3D tech by Sony and a coupled release with some top selling games ( GT5 in the pot ;) ) are very reasonable and would make me believe in a Summer release, however everything depends on a finished product to release, and as far as I know, PD doesn't have it, yet. ;)

Europe was the last to have the game released to them after Japan and North America, but now that Europe's sales of Gran Turismo have risen, it seems that North America will be coming in third place for a release date. :nervous:

For all the Fall 2010 votes, Things don't seem to be looking your way. PD doesn't seem to like the Fall for some reason besides the exception of the GTPSP. Cross your fingers anyway.

With all that said...

I think they will actually achieve a worldwide release this time. :D I'll guess this will happen sometime in late September, which gives them all summer to crank up the hype machine.

If there is one thing that time will have allowed PD to achieve, it is the ability to localise everything in readiness for global launch, with regions separated by days, not weeks or months.

While I do think the release will be late this year, I also believe that we will all get it by the time 2011 comes around.

Hm, but anyway it should be clear that the JP version will still be in 1st to come out, as you expected when it would be released :D

I don't like my guess as much as the next guy does, but I was just trying to be realistic.

A global release date is now more likely, due to the technology and time given. I still think that Japan will be getting this game first because of the announcement we got back over the winter about a "release date" only for Japan. Polyphony Digital is a Japan exclusive company so I would believe they would release their pride and glory to their own country first, which I don't agree with, but that's just the way things are done.

No matter what, the game is going to sell and PD knows that.

I wouldn't have any doubt that even some non GT/racing fans will buy this game just to see what 5 to 6 years of working on one game looks like.

I can guarantee that will be the case. I know a few people with both an Xbox 360 and PS3, and they really only use the PS3 for exclusives like MGS4, Uncharted, Killzone 2 etc. A couple of those are not really into racing games at all, but have said that they will almost certainly pick up the game as an example of the "best in genre", if not just on PS3 but all consoles - almost like, 6 years of development and all this hype cannot be for nothing! I hope they are right!

Two and the half years have pass, Polyphony is playing at my date at this point, all contestants are down except last 5 of us, since 2012 is hardly the option the final fight will be fought betwen me and Wolfe.

[*]Wolfe: Mar 22 2010

[*]amar212: May 07 2011

Who will be closer of those two masterminds?

Let the better man win! :D

I bet your guess is closer to the real release date than Wolfe's, the foreign formats of GT5 will be unlikely to come out within 2010 unless PD achieves a worldwide release, if they're thinking in terms of releasing the Japanese version of that late this year(which is supposed to be out first)

"Soon" - I win.

Wicktionary Definition, of "Soon": Occurring within a short time, or quickly; Immediately, instantly; Within a short time; quickly; Early

Based on that, and my interpretation of what "within a short time" means, I'd say you are as good as losing! ;)

Damn!!!! It's going to be close... Sadly my money would be on amar.

I expect a Dec '10 JP release earliest..

PD Just love doing their TGS blow-outs, and that just pushes things too close to the end of the year...

Although I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong :)

Before the Gulf oil spill is cleaned up?

Or October 20th 2010, because they want to release it for my birthday (the secret is out ) 👍

March 2011. They will announce December 2010 at E3, but the game will suffer further setbacks due to trying to model the driver's breath showing in cold weather or something equally as stupid.

GTPlanet will explode with people moaning, and the normal people amongst us will just go about our lives as normal, but £40 better off for a while.

And it still won't have reverse lights.

Awesome. Just awesome.

I believe GT5 is not far away from being released since my local game retailer has finally got GT5 on there computer release list so i will be pre-ordering GT5 tomorrow.

Some stores in our local town have had it available for pre-order since well before Christmas. Doesn't really mean much at all, especially when none of the online retailers seem to have anything aproaching a reliable date yet.

Theirs no concrete word yet for retailer outlets.
I have a friend is a manager at an HMV store and he will get first word when anything is mentioned with regards retailers.
On the other hand I dont see any evidence to support September, October, November, December so ignore anyone telling you Summer 2010 isnt possible.

A release date could well be announced 4-6 weeks prior to release.
It doesnt have to be many months in advance.

One thing I found funny

GT5 has been playable in 3D at CES in JAN 2010

Sony just announced what 3D games will be available as free for Sony 3DTV purchasers.
Thing is the ones being available were also playable.
Whys GT5 not one of them?

Maybe thats another clue that GT5 will be the AAA 3DTV title and indeed release in the summer.
