Ok, I'm a long time GT player and fairly competent driver, so this one is stumping me.

I've probably put close to 1000 runs into this one. 14.6 for gold, I'm running under 14.65 literally EVERY time. Once I went through at 14.584 but the game glitched and recorded it as 14.611.

My only guess is that I cannot execute smoothly enough with the DS3 (I ordered a G27 wheel that should be en route) but I feel like regardless I should not be having trouble with a B license test

I am braking into the corner at 95mph, apex at 50mph and exiting corner at around 55. Hitting 14.612 almost every time

Any tips to shave that last hundredth of a second off? (Remember im using DS3 controller)

For those who don't remember test is the Dunlop hairpin on Nurburgring GP, car is Renault Sport Megane. This is the last gold I need it's killing me!

Thanks!

I took a wide line through the beginning of the corner. It's all about carrying speed.

Since I don't remember this License test from earlier, so I just gave this a shot and after a number of attempts, I ran a 14.566 for Gold. It seems to me that what made me fast was that I got back on the throttle earlier than in my silver runs. It torches your front tires, but they seem to be able to handle it. So my recommendation is to get back on the accelerator a little earlier than you've been doing and just hold on and let the Megane pull you thru the turn.

Good luck!

I know. I am beyond embarrassed and frustrated. I've watched tens of YouTube videos but I can't seem to emulate them. I don't remember having this much trouble with the international and super licenses in past games.

I either lose all my speed going into the corner or I can't get on the throttle smoothly enough on the exit and either lose more speed or understeer into the left side

When i get on the throttle too early I understeer. Is maximum turning input ever required?

This is a FWD car, right? If so, you might try treating this like a 2-apex corner. Turn in slightly earlier and brake later, then trail-brake aggressively into the early apex (almost like you're dive-bombing to make a pass), roll slightly wide before rotating in to the late apex, and get hard on the throttle as soon as possible.

This sacrifices mid-corner speed for quicker rotation so you can get on the throttle earlier, which is made difficult by how much FWD cars push when accelerating. Don't know for sure if it will work, since I'm not in front of my PS3 to try, but that's what I would try first. Good luck! 👍

Edit: And don't overdo it. You're close already, so make small adjustments.

Keep on trying - you can do it! I did all the licences with a DS3 and that one wasn't the hardest. 👍

Dr Kronin, this is the strategy I have been trying too. I think the problem lies in my breaking somewhere in the early to mid part of the turn

Do you mean that you're letting off the brake and then braking again? It's best if you only brake once. Braking is very important for this test. See if you can brake just a tad later and try to avoid braking again mid-corner. If you're using L2 for braking (which I would recommend), let off gradually so that you can begin tightening your turn as you let off the brake.

That said, you are very close, and I know that when I get close like that, I sometimes hit a wall and won't improve until I move on to something else and come back later. That might be all you need.

You shouldn't need maximum turning input.

I took a look at my replay and after braking hard, I actually coast for a bit before getting back on the throttle. And it was pretty much full throttle once I was able to get back on the throttle.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I need a break before I explode but I'll try applying this advice again tonight and let you all know when I get it.

The Megane is an FF by the way

^agreed.👍
You can coast and turn at a higher speed across the apex - accelerate too soon and it will take longer to get the nose round which is where a lot of time is lost.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=271069 ;) 👍

PS: It also applies to DS3. Follow DrKronin's advice on a double-apex strategy. That is actually the fastest line through this turn regardless of drivetrain. Once you've hit the first apex, don't get off of the brakes. Engage throttle at 50-75% and feather the brake until you can go WOT without going off.

Great strategies all around, the handbrake idea won, the little extra rotation right before the second apex got me through in 14.531

That one sure put me in my place, this grasshopper has a lot to learn :)

Congrats. 👍

I had trouble with the same test, I think I was off my silly amounts like 0.008 or something like that. Researched it on YouTube and got it in my next few tries. It was the handbrake trick too!

The worst part was watching my winning (14.584) ghost go through the finish in front of me every time :ouch:

But honestly if you can't beat it more than once in 50 tries you probably didn't really pass the test :P

If you pull up the RA menu before the start of the license tests and jack up your brake bias, it'll really help deceleration which leads to quicker times. Helps every test!
