License Test Ideas

Well we all despise or enjoy the thrill of licenses, so do you have any particular favourites from any of the Gran Turismo Series that you'd like to see in GT4 or any ideas for completely unheard of ones?

I liked a license test from Gran Turismo 2, you were in the Toyota TS020 Race Car 99' (I think) and you drove down into a dip to meet a chicane and back up the other side up a hill to find a hairpin at the top of a blind crest, the rest was a blast to the finish. I liked this test because of the G-forces the car underwent to be able to make it round through the chicane and up to the hairpin at full speed and the blind cornering aspect too.

Well here are some ideas.

1. Your driving a stock car, maybe a 3000GT, or Skyline R34 except you've got a trailer to wrestle with. You have to manoeuvre the load around a set course of cones in a designated time.

2. You're in a high powered car except this test involves high speed reversing, you have to do a quick 180 of the start line then drive between some cones to pull a 180 again to reverse through the finish.

Do you have any crazy license ideas too?

Heres an idea, scrap licenses. I fricking hate them. Boring and Oh so pointless.

I agree. The only good reason that they're there for is because you can gain extra cars.

Actually, if done seriously (rather than as a chore) I think they can be very helpful for polishing one's driving technique.

I Can't help but find licenses a chore, after GT1,2,3,GTC (Well there more like time trials) & now GT:P, the once original idea is now generally boring.

Although the coffee break 'games' in GT:P are fun.

GT licenses also damaged my exam results when I was 15, too busy trying to get my A license (a PSX was new to me then, so I was crap) in GT1 rather than revising

But yeah, it can help improve your driving.

I actually like the license tests a LOT. They are good for beginner to learn the game and hard to get gold in them for the more experienced/goldjunkies.

Good ideas Alpha, although i highly doubt that we will be seeing any trailers. :p

Edit: second S in tests.

I love the license tests, honestly. They really do polish ones driving skills (and acclimate you to the new GT's physics). I also think they are fun. Often times the licenses are way more challenging than the racing is and I love a good challenge.....

The licence tests can be the most frustrating part of a GT game, but the sense of accomplishment when you get all golds is worth it, I say keep them in.

Well they should at least give u something for all bronzes/silvers/golds in each licence, that way I would feel bothered.

But anyone can get bronze and silver medals, if you don't have to work for a prize then whats the point, ehy not just give it to you for nothing in the first place. GT3 is the only one where the licences bug me, and that because the prize cars can be won elsewhere, the prize doesn't justify the effort put in, GT2 had it right. Damn that CRX Del-sol LM was nice.

I'm kinda two sided on this issue. GT3 was my first GT game, and i didn't even attempt gold licenses at first....it was waay to hard. I do think they are good for beginners because when i first got GT3, it did help my skills a lot, and helped me get used to the physics....but sometimes they are sooo frusterating, i would just say get rid of them...but as mentioned above....if you do happen to get all golds....it IS a great accomplishment...probably one of the biggest accomplishments in the GT series IMO just because they are so hard. So i guess it would be best to keep them in.

I found the licence tests a chore. To me driving a car around a corner 200 times to try and shave 0.000000001 of a second off your time is not fun.

I did them properly the first time I played and after that used AR2 codes.

I think the license tests were the only actual challenge in the whole game everything else was just too easy. Well not at the beginning but after a few weeks, really there was no challenge left. Well then I started under powering my cars and it got fun again, but it takes quite some time to get the right balance. Anyways I can’t believe that anyone would want to remove the only real challenge in the game. Oh I just remembered the time trials. I forgot about those.

agreed 100% 👍

Personally I don't think the licence tests helped my driving any, although starting off with low powered cars while I got used to the physics did. I've probably polished my driving more during the free run sessions while I've been tweaking the car setup.

I don't mind the licencing, because you can just coast through on all bronze. I get really annoyed at the time trials, though due to the requirement to get first. I'm going insane!!!

I really liked doing the circle track on gt3 in the rain with the corvette. Thta was cool. But license tests are completely boring and useless, only if uve had the game before. But for ideas.... Maybe like a real driving test, like parralel parking and traffic merges or maybe just have u geta good lap time on a track to better aqquanted with the tracks, just for kicks.
 ?? thumbs up orthumbs down:confused:

👍

i would also like to access ALL the tracks. ie in GT3 we did the circle tracks for licence i would like to have a play around that for awhile.
so if GT4 will have some great licence tracks (skid pan or something) i would like to have access to it

That's not strictly so - I know a number of people who struggled so much with the licenses they gave up on the game altogether... Which isn't necessarily unexpected; I mean, they do call it a "simulator", after all, which means realism before fun for fun's sake.

Nonetheless, it is still a game, and maybe it isn't crazy to think that a game shouldn't induce uncontrollable fits of sobbing, pleading, and threats toward the TV in grown men. The supposed elation felt at besting these things often doesn't warrant the ulcers and acne suffered on the road to victory. I didn't pop a cork after TT10 - I took a nap.

License tests are a necessary boil on my backside.

fiveoneoh. Enough with the insults. You're a new member and it's not a good practice to start insulting long term members.

I'll suggest also that you be a bit more intelligent when you post. Grammar and proper punctuation are encouraged and looked upon favorably here at GTPlanet.

Please adjust your attitude, or find someplace else to troll.

Thank you.
