Other than for personal training and trophies...yes, they are pointless now. I had an idea.....ever get tired of bad drivers or immature kids in your online lobbies? What if PD incorporated another filter for licenses. Maybe to make it even more dramatic...only gold trophied licenses. I believe this would greatly reduce the amount of "those" people. Idk how hard it would be for PD to do this but I thought it might be a way to make use of the license tests. What do you think?

I like the idea but how about "qualifying" for the room with a lap time before you enter? You have to conform with the lobby's current car regulations at the current track. You will get as many tries as you wish until you complete it in under the set time. This feature could be turned on or off by the host in the regulation or event settings.
Then you could have "join requests" for players to send the host if they can't qualify and the host can deny or accept in case, for example, the hosts friend sucks at the game but is a mature driver and still wants to play with him.

What's the point of adding a filter in your own lobbies when you can just kick them out?
I would hate golding some licenses just to be somewhat guaranteed I'm driving with mature drivers. To avoid annoying drivers you can just join lobbies with "clean" in their title or just put the word "clean" in your own online room name.

Not a big fan of the idea. Some of the license tests are impossible to gold without spending a ridiculous and tedious amount of time on. Especially for DS3 users. I have tons of good people on my friends list who haven't bothered to get 60 gold and are not immature, kids or bad drivers. Frankly I understand why someone wouldn't want to waste Hours on end trying to gold such frustrating gems as IA-10, IB-3, IA-6 etc.

In my opinion all the license tests can be golded in a few attempts, many first time. It was only on the 370z at Indy Road that I had to spend about 50minutes.

I can't be bothered to do the license tests but when online I play fairly if the room says to or dirty when it doesn't. Also I sometimes play clean if the room doesn't say you have to.

They need to force the issue with the licenses unlocking the game, if you scrap the levelling system interms of what races you can do in favour of having to complete the licenses then the online side of the game wouldn't be full of jerks doing this:

How about the idea of a public (ghost) qualifying session where the 16 fastest qualify for the race. Similar to F1 and NASCAR where you need to get within a certain time of the pole to be allowed to start the race. However it would just be the first 16 as if there was an alien in the field then no one else would get to start the race :P

Or another idea, I see iRacing has a "Safety Rating" which takes your previous races into account as to what races you can join. For example if you are known for driving backwards and crashing people (regularly) then your safety rating is lower, meaning you can't enter certain races.

Its usually best to join the rooms with "clean" in them for sure.
Also when you do find a group of good drivers, add them to your friends list. I have quite a few on mine which means more often then not I can join a solid clean lounge when ever i play GT5.

The Licenses are completely pointless in GT5 though and almost all of them are easily able to be golded, shame really :(

In fairness the licenses have been obsoleted now with the introduction of the level system and therefore having them be the base of what you can enter and what you can't instead. The only true point to the licenses these days is for trophy collection. Or maybe so they can smuggle in another GT-R for the S License Gold prize, I dunno. :boggled:

Most replies were not in favor of the all gold specifically. Getting gold on the license tests was just a thought in efforts to further restrict people, or in other words an add-on thought to my original idea. I personally don't have all gold on any of the licenses and don't intend on doing so...so lets scrap that idea all together and stick simply with the required licenses (bronze, silver, and gold) idea lol.

I notice while online, a lot of the rooms stated "clean" have been open for a while and are usually a cluttered bumper car race and/or completely off topic by the time I join. Fixed host usually ensures this doesn't happen though.

Being the host and having to kick people, what seems like too often, gets pretty old and ends up ruining my little amount of play time and me opting to play A-spec or Seasonals. Id rather not deal with it at all.

I do like Schwartz38 and HxC Healy ideas. It basically has the same purpose...I think it might get old having to do qualifying runs every time you want to join a room though...especially with the load times and lack of reliability for PSN servers. I was basically thinking of a productive way to utilize what is already in the game, but don't really use (kinda like the car wash lol). The safety score could work though.

Licenses are the first thing I do in a GT game. I don't do one race or even buy a car until I've gone through and gotten at least silver on every test. It's an excellent way to familiarize yourself with an update physics engine and essentially take a refresher course on how to get round a track quickly.

I do realize that they're basically pointless in GT5 otherwise but they're still mostly fun and sometimes maddening. However, if you go through and get all gold then I promise you WILL be a better virtual driver.

^hence the reason I had this idea. Unfortunately...most people are not like you.

Licenses are annoying, and stopped me from playing GT3.

License filters! Exellent idea. However, I think it is a bit anal asking for all golds. Shows above average understanding of technique, game physics, and overall driving abilitiy to just obtain an S-License, IMO. It also shows motivation in that someone is willing enough to put more into the game in order to get more out of it.

However, those who have licenses are not always the most compentent drivers out there. It really just takes experience and practice to run clean laps. Each track and each car is different, so it just takes sheer game time to be skilled enough to race cleanly but effectively. Licenses are educational but anyone can devote a weekend to smash through them and still end up as sloppy as someone who doesn't have all the licenses...

The way I see it, there just isn't a good way to filter in GT5. But I'm sure the best results are a stack of limitations, a book of penalities, and a lobby title that clearly states what you expect out of those who join. This usually shows those baddies that your lobby is serious business, and then I'm sure you'd benefit from a similar result as if you were to throw a Gold S-License filter in there. You can't get away from baddies, they'll always be there at any level of gaming.

I would be surprised if any good clean driver is unable to get all golds in GT5.

"Race for real" rooms, Fixed host, some vehicle restriction (pp/hp/weight/tyre/a mix of each) and more than half the room. Theoretically the recipe for clean, close racing. A license restriction would be good but given the fact that the game goes through without needing them, people will clock the game (minus the licenses) go online and then have to do all the licenses just to get into a good room.

I think PD messed it up somewhere between the challenges, leveling system and licenses. License test in GT are a trademark and should have never been put aside for anything else.

I'm pretty sure (I hope) the next GT will have the typical "do the license tests, or stick with the sunday cup only" thing. And it would be better if they leave the leveling system only for unlocking cars.

The challenges are fine and fun, since they been with us since GT4. I just hope they separate the rally events next time and that the previous GT prize system comes back.

I wish the GT5 license would have been part of the game really. :/ That was way better than the leveling system but I guess that they could just make it so some race are not open to you if you don't have the license AND the level... Thus making the game more challenging like past GT games...

Yes, this. I have golded about half that licenses, have a lot of silvers and a couple bronzes left. I just can't seem to beat some of them.

In my opinion all the license tests can be golded in a few attempts, many first time.

For the top one or five percent of players, but not for the other ninety-some percent. There's plenty of players that have yet to get gold on all of them, and not just because of lack of trying.

I love them. Not great for exp though and they give no credits. But serve a great function in GT. :)

There are cumulative stats for all players?

GT5 Licenses is suck of series ever.

I means the test content are much easy than every GT title (include GT PSP)
Also, player level is the point make Licenses Test are Pointless in GT5...

I'm a GT purist, so I love the license tests. I actually miss the days when GT mode events were locked until you achieved a certain license. It made the game's progression feel alive. Like, you had to work to reach the next "level".

Maybe licenses should be kept, but given high amounts of prize money as the incentive? Possibly break down the prized by:

- Completing a stage/test/mission : overalls, helmet, horn or paint chip that can only be unlock via THAT specific test.
- Completing a license : cars that players WANT and can only be unlocked by completing that license and do not appear on the official car list.

Right on the money :sly:👍

I agree.

One thing I loved about the earlier GT games was that you had to complete the licenses before you compete in certain events. I have done like A and B without completing the rest. Why complete em when you don't need em to unlock races/events?

ie for beginner series you have to have B licence, for the endurance races, you have to be level 25 and have the S licence etc.

They messed this up so badly, why fix something that isn't broken?. I undertsand the level system for online, but for A-spec mode? But i guess they were trying to cater for a bigger audience? For kids maybe?

But then that still doesn't make sense, because i bronzed all my trophies in GT1 when i was 9!

Just like IRL:

Having a driving licence doesn't prevent people to drive like maniacs, drink and drive etc. It only proves that once they where able to follow the rules.

Thats the reason, we've got a police IRL and a Kick-button in the game.
