I love driving these cars, throwing them around corners at a high rate of speed and pass by much newer & higher HP cars. Sure they catch up on the straights, but with some proper upgrades and weight reduction, I've had quite a few podium finishes! I also like the fact that, most of these came naturally aspirated... so you have to be creative with the mods, to be able to wring out every last ounce of performance, without slapping on a turbo/ SC (which messes up the overall balance anyway, IMHO).

My top three are:

1. Jaguar E-TYPE Coupe '61 (what a joy to drive... specially stock)
2. Isuzu Bellett 1600 GT-R '69 (I absolutely LOVE this light little "beast")
3. Nissan BLUEBIRD Hardtop 1800SSS (910) '79 (looks are bland... but solid cornering and balance)

... granted, I haven't driven most of the cars in the game yet. That's why I wanted to see how others here in GTPlanet feel about this category of cars and share their own. Cheers :)

It's weird. There seems to be a direct link between how slow a car is, and how much fun you can have in it. My favourite experience in GT5 to date was in a classic Fiat 500 on the Nurburgring 24H circuit, at night, with the HUD turned off. It was just breathtaking.
I own all three of the cars you mentioned, but the only one I've driven is the E-Type. Personally I found it a bit too understeery, but I think I'll give them all a go now. Thanks for the tip!

I love my Honda RSC S800 Race car, less than 100 hp, give it some comfort soft (racing tires are overkill on this car), and prepare to have a blast.

Lotus Elan!! That car is tiny, nimble, and fast with mods! Mine only has 150hp and it lights up the tires every time a race starts. Im sure with more tuning and horsepower it will be one hell of a car!

The Lotus Europa '71 is a great, fun MR car. I drive this car for kicks in the British Lightweights.

I took the advise from gt5power to go for a jag e type coupe. Refreshed te UCD fir a while before i found that car. Painted it bright red and did minor tunes to it. To this date it remains one of my favourite car. Stunning to look at. Tonnes of fun to drive!

Stock Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 ‘65. Holy crap.

👍

Mine aint stock but I agree its amazing. First standard car I bought and its easily the most beautiful classic in the game.

as for me. I would go with the Lancia Stratos rally version bone stock. Most rewarding car to drive.

I have a bunch of cars like this but rarely get to race them as you can't find many races online for such cars.

Just to name a few:

Ginetta G4 (98hp but only 400kg so great fun, beautiful aswell!)
Triumph Spitfire
BMW 2002 Turbo
Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR (and I suspect the rally version of this will be absolutley fantastic, but don't have it yet)

and many others.

I drive all these cars stock with the tyres they came with (usually comfort soft/medium, sports hard for the ginetta) because that way they're just great fun.

Earlier I tried to host a server for these cars (named OEM Classics) but no-one turned up. As it seems there are other people here who appreciate cars like this maybe we should try and arrange something?

I can also vote for Triumph Spitfire! Tune it and put the Racing Exhaust on it - and it just sounds incredible. Deep rumble in low RPM's and then it changes to a high pitch scream! And great fun to drive too. I often race British Lightweight with it. Try it!! :-)

Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2

This car is too easy to drive out of the box. I finally bought one and was surprised how composed it was, too composed for what I was expecting. I'm not sure about whether to stick some lesser tyres on or tune it until it gets looser under power.

Lotus Elan!! That car is tiny, nimble, and fast with mods! Mine only has 150hp and it lights up the tires every time a race starts. Im sure with more tuning and horsepower it will be one hell of a car!

Ive raced it in the British Lightweights, suspension tuning and added horsepower to match the other Elan in the race (197BHP). Not the car with the fastest acceleration, but if you can manage fast flowing lines through the corners it can catch up with the leading Elise. Thats racing on the edge for ya..:)

I enjoy driving the Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR Rally Car. I found it in the UCD and jumped on it. After an oil change and complete rebuild, the car is a blast to drive. The Catherham Fireblade is enjoyable too once you get it moving. The lack of torque sucks, but it handles like a dream.

GREAT replies fellaz! Now I am keeping an eye out for all the cars you mentioned :dopey:. Just picked up a Honda S800 Race Car... man that thing has to be one of the smallest cars in the game... but what a blast to drive!!

Also my B-Spec guy just finished the British Lightweight Championship with a modded Triumph Spitfire... before he could not keep up with the Lotus contingent, even when driving a lot more powerful TVR Tuscan.
