My Caterham 7 is pretty much fully modified and weight reduced as it can be and it is absolutely unreal

i cant remember the times but my holden commodore ss is modified to the 2006 V8 spercar championship specs and the caterham is only about .5-1.0 seconds slower around Tsukuba

Except the name "Shelby" and the number "427".

The cobra is a kludge. Shelby wanted an American sports car to be competitive in Europe, so he did the American thing: Throw as much power as you can at the problem. The car has only one thing going for it: brute power, combined with light weight. In handling, it's mediocre at best. It's just a banal re-engineering of a British sports car.

Around the same time he was producing the Cobra, he convinced Ford to give him a blank check budget to develop a -real- GT car from scratch, and the result is the Ford GT, a much greater accomplishment

Cobra: Built in UK then sent to US for engines. Quickest thing on the 1/4 mile out of the box for 10-15 years.

Carroll Shelby had nothing to do with the GT40. It was a Lola (british) design by Eric Broadley (British) that Ford bought then asked John Wyer (British) to develop in Slough (England).
