... They might not be available much longer. Will they ever cease to get around America's hatred of socialism by making laws that will make things illegal?

Anyway, this law probably wouldn't reduce my use of the AC much at all. Although maybe I'm the only one that drives around with the AC on year round. I think that they might accomplish their goal a little quicker if they require people to crack their windows when parked or look into ways to help the AC work better. And I know that my little black toaster oven is much less hot when the windows are cracked and the sunroof is tilted up.

It amazes me of California's incredible ability completely miss the point when it comes to the Green Movement. Even by California standards, this is stupid enough that it doesn't have much chance of passing; buts its fun to know that we still have total idiots in charge.

Can I know what they're smoking so I can have some shipped here?

Must be good.

Agreed.

Though this means I might be able to pick up a black car for cheap soon.

California has serious mental issues, except with marijuana. They rock with that legislation.

Pure stupidity. I can't believe people are actually serious with this stuff.

This is stupid. Henry Ford might as well be rolling in his grave.

Man...I wanted to paint my car black too...

Maybe that's a way around the legislation - getting a re-spray! Get the manufacturers to sell primed cars cheap enough that having a re-spray would bring the purchase price up to normal levels :p

(I know this wouldn't actually work. Or happen).

It's daft - from experience, it doesn't change a thing about AC usage.

I live in a very sunny, and very hot, country. Our family had two white cars, one black, and the current red car - but they're all equally hot during the summer. Entering the car, from April to November, must never be done without opening all doors at least a minute earlier, and even then - seatbelts remain untouchably hot. Be it a white Peugoet or Fiat, or a black Citroen - it's a cooking-oven during the real summer.

I was reading some of the comments on the link site and it was quite insightful. I one guy said, today black cars, tomorrow black clothes.... meaning black clothes causes more panting, which increases a body's co2 emission. Sure glad I live in the US of A, and not the Liberal Republic of California.

Pfft, if they just encouraged more of those solar-powered cooling systems it would be better. Power increases proportionally with amount of heat causing sunlight. WINNER.

unfortunately, Philly's right with that one quote

Will they ever cease to get around America's hatred of socialism by making laws that will make things illegal?

and where CARB goes, NE emissions follow.

this is as ridiculous as literally basing your insurance rates on the ratio of doors and seating positions to engine size and paint color. I have NEVER had a BLACK car...a couple black interiors, yes (more charcoal in the latest), but...

you'll know when a car comes from cali when it comes in three colors...white, grey, and Silver...they'll be forcing cali manufacturers to make white tires, next :P

It's nice to know that California's politicos go out of its way to make Florida look purty durn smrt.

Then again, it doesn't have a chance in hell of passing; it's obviously discriminatory and promotes segregation.

I think those devices are a very good idea. The Aptera uses one - the solar panels are used to keep the aircon on a low power constantly, meaning that when you come back to the car, it's nice and cool already, even on a baking hot day - and then you don't need to use the aircon while you're moving as much, which saves energy.

And it wouldn't matter what colour the car was, because on a hot day there'd be enough solar energy generated to step up the aircon to whatever level it was needed.

what's next? The Governator ditching his hummer for Honda Insight and cigars for nicotine-patches?

I'm not so sure about moving in there anymore.. my pet lion doesn't like the leash or collar.

One of the dumbest things I ever heard! The color of the car has zero to do with how hot it becomes inside it. The color and fabric of the interior is however a different matter.
And why, I wonder, does the beduins have black robes? Because black clothes do not reflect the sunshine, and it also provides a better protection from the sun. So if we follow the (stupid) logic of California, a black car gives you better protection from the UV rays! Bollocks!
The paint has nothing whatsoever to do with the usage of AC!

I can't wait to get a black P71 and piss all the greenies off... Wait that means cops have to change the color of their car too... PINK PO-PO's PULLEEEZ!!!

Oh and Bones... you should pay more attention to that... Its been overturned... And thats old news anways.

Y'know...can we FORCE California to secede? I'd have no objection to having them become their own country. They just about are.

Hey Ahnold, where you gettin' that fine dope? Wanna hook me up with some?

But really, however you slice it, all cars get hot when parked. Maybe if everyone was more like me and only rolled windows down unless it's raining, they wouldn't have any issues :ideas:

The underlying message: This won't pass, the AC has to work just as hard. California, Rest in Peace
