I'm not listing the new features, but this is mostly a question, somewhat. I have downloaded Linux Ubuntu 10.04. After I restarted my laptop, it crashed. But I got it back up the next day. This isn't the first time this has happened. I'm thinking it's just Ubuntu. What is the problem here? I know most, but has this ever happened to any of you before?

I don't even know what your problem is to tell the truth(you are very vague in your description).
 
Its a bug. Try reporting it on Launchpad. You'll need to create an account. By the way, have fun with Ubuntu! If you have any questions, feel free to use the Ubuntu forums, Launchpad or me. Also, try telling me a bit more about your laptop.
 
A million variables, if it's not a regular problem then I'd just leave it.

If you can reproduce it the report a bug like NissanSkylineN1 said :)

Ohly crap! I was using my laptop about an hour ago, then I heard some strange sparking noise. It must have been my laptop. So I looked around the back of it, and I saw smoke. I turned it off imediately! Well, that's the end of it. There has been many issues with that thing.
For now, I am using my parents' laptop, then hopefully my older brother will give me his other laptop. It's exactly like mine, but in better shape. "Don't obtain your sister's laptop, EVER!"
The smoke scared the 🤬 out of me. Literaly.
 
Dude, that is not Ubuntu. Probably a fried motherboard or a screwed up power supply.
 
Were you running any video games(in high settings?) or too many programs? Because you can seriously melt your cpu/gpu heatsink if the temperatures are too high. Other than that it could of been a fried motherboard as NissanSkylineN1 suggested before.
 
I was not running a programs except searching on GTPlanet. It must have been a fried motherboard. Hopefully my brother will give me his Inspiron. It is in very good condition. My sister took terrible care in hers. Now she has had her Mac for over a year, and is looking all scratched up.
 
What was the laptop? Can you tell me specs? Thanks

I'm guessing that its Ubuntu and Dell's problem. see, the Dell probably didn't have good cooling and then since the Dell was made for XP, the ACPI (thing that controls the processor and fan) was not the same as Windows.
 
I see, so the ACPI wasn't working correctly with Ubuntu, you're saying.
