While I will go into deal in a moment I want to start by saying this is without a doubt one of the best games I have EVER played.

I do agree, the art direction is phenomenal and really is what makes it, it kinda reminds me of Super Mario but with a lot more depth. The team intro and the following tutorial was a nice touch and set the tone of the game.

A word must be given to these tutorial sections themselves, all are narrated by Steven Fry (who is on his usual excellent form), for anyone who doesn't know him, here he is hosting QI...

I knew that voice was familiar!!! I was trying to put my finger on it, yes Steven Fry is excellent at it and is a perfect choice for something like this.

OK had a chance to play with LBP last night.

So you mention you placed stickers on one of the tutorial levels. I wonder if you are able to come back to the tutorial another day and still see the stickers?
As well you put stickers there, will other people online see them?
Or you have to create a custom MAP in order to do so. I hear you can VANDALIZE any map with stickers, so if a player DL you're map will they be able to put stickers and other player that DL the map later be able to see it?

Good question.

I will have to have a look later (in between Wipeout HD, COD4 and Burnout - damn its busy right now).

Well, IIRC, you can vandalize them, but only if they aren't using LBP's "Copyright" system, which makes it so that you cannot edit the level without getting a key from the creator.

I don't want to play the beta.

I want to be completely shocked and overwhelmed with all the features in the game when I get it that first day.

It's a good sighn when guys playing the beta are raveing about it, afterall the beta is just a little slice of the full game, really looking foreward to this title when it's released.

I was quite suprised at the amount of content the beta provided... it was basically the whole first level (world) and a taster of the build your own game stuff. I was literally expecting something which lasted 5 mins! But ive been playing it for hours and hours!

Anyone else find there were silight bugs in the beta... like when you select it on the XMB theres a overly long pause / freeze up before it goes into the game? Also once it failed to read the save data, froze and I had to hard reboot. But these are just little niggles.. the core game is working perfectly, I should think so condiering its already in production!

Yea besides it being a beta, period...it was atually made a while ago. So it's an old game version beta in the first place.

Yeah I didnt expect it to not have these slight issues, was just wondering if anyone else had noticed them. Another one is where you select a level and the loading text overlaps the previous text.

Surely the point of a beta is so that the devs can gain feedback... if its already gone gold this is probably better referred to as an exclusive demo.

You will be. 👍

For a Beta its actually very polished and looks to be very close to the final build, and as Robin said it does have a huge amount of content.

Probably because the game went gold before the "Beta" went out. I honestly wonder if this Beta is technically a Beta and not more of a demo taken off the final test version.

Honestly, the only testing I can see being done in this beta is the community features with thousands of people using it, and even then it would be server side as the game itself is being physically placed on discs as we speak.

Good thing no one can edit the level you created :)
But I just wonder if when you vandalize if the pictures you put in will upload to the map so other players will see them...
I think its a good idea at the same bad idea... Because after 100 user vandalize my maps would start to look like a wild picture book.

IIRC, PS3Fanboy said that the beta is actually a build that is a few weeks old, and that most (if not all) problems have been fixed in the final version.

Still not a beta in the traditional sense. Many demos are created off of a beta build and have bugs and glitches, which is why demos can often not be a proper representation of the game.

holler @ goatse.

I really don't think that playing for an hour qualifies enough to make such a harsh opinion on a really vast game, got a beta code a couple of dyas ago too, and I've been surprised at some things, playing with someone else makes it even more fun and fluid, playing with friends locally is even better, and judging from all of the tools to create your own level it sounds like a blast, can't help but feel sorry because it's a game that you cna really dig deep with and that's not commonly found.

Its very fun to play with friends at home, but the online play is very dodgy, it seems like lag can have a tremendous effect on the gameplay.
I've seen rubberbanding, plain resets, even got my sackboy outfit randomly adjusted out of nowhere during a game, connection to other players lost where there is no designated host for the level making it impossible to continue, very very poor level design so far by users, and had to reset my PS3 4 times yesterday whilst trying to play LBP.

The gameservers seem to be melting too, and this is just the semi-closed beta.

I had some problems at first but I think it's due to bad internet connection from the host, I hosted a game with my crappy connection with someone else and it was great, no lag at all, though I think the game does need better private servers because relying on user bandwith is gonna make the online very hard to enjoy.

About the level design there are some pretty good ones, Little Big colossus being one of the best I've tried, haven't tried making one myself though, and so far I've never had to reset my PS3.

Actually some of them are excellent, they almost look like LBP devs did them themselves... just go by the ones which are most hearted... The Heist part 1 and 2 are brilliant!

So, I requested a beta code last week from my work email in hopes of getting one. I then went out of town on Friday. I come in to work this morning to find one waiting for me in my mailbox. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will inform you all of my thoughts after I get it downloaded tonight.

For those with it already, how big is the download?

I can't remember exactly, but its around 900 to 1GB or something... Not too bad considering the amount of content you get!

Robin
Thanks, I'll start the download as soon as I get home. I only have five days to play with it.
