"A few weeks ago, Bill was puffing out his chest on the cover of Time Magazine, talking about the "Living Room Battle" that Microsoft would easely win against Sony with it’s Xbox 360. Another kind of battle just happened here in Paris...
Promoting it’s new PSP (the platform is not yet available in France), Sony opened a showroom called "The Factory" in Paris, Place de l’Etoile. Just accross the road stands a laundry (right, on photo). With a touch of espieglery, Microsoft hired the place to stick big ads on the shop (left), saying with quite a sense of humor : "Keep your forces for Winter". Of course, that’s when the Xbox 360 is meant to come out. And of course, this type of advertisement displeased Sony... After one day of corporate blasphemy, the stickers were removed (right photo again). No lawsuit, no scandal, just a big cheque from Sony. This nice story of laundry battling made the laundry worker a bit richer. Which is a good point."

when will they stop squabaling like a couple of little kids? this made my day :)

all this petty squabbling wont make their system any better than the other, the fans already know the reputation of both companies and will basicly know which one they are buying, but that is embarrassing for bill gates! wat a waste of time and a classic - how to make yourself look to be more of an idiot - situation! grow up bill!

Why is it Bill's fault some MS biggie in France decided to put thoes adds there? Why does everyone think every decision MS makes is because Bill said so?

i wasnt just talking about this one insident im talking about - oh my console is so much better than yours all the time - although we have to admit it does get hilarious sometimes both ms and sony are guilty

Yes, and Sony has been doing the same "oh were were expecting more from the XB360", "it's not as good as we'd expected", "our consoles twice as powerful" ect, ect, ect. Bill's the face of MS, he's not the owner, he doesn't make all the decisions, the only things you can put on him are the words that come from him. So far that make one instance and all he's done is mirror certain Sony spokesmen. It's business, they're in competition, they're gonna slag eachother off.

I don't think Nintendo are as much in competition, they cater for a more nich market as opposed to the mass market appeal of the PS and XB.

how do they still manage to get the sales and profit? i found it very weird they could afford to release the gamecube at the price that they did it was like £150 or something!

The GC wasn't that expensive to manufacture, even though most of the extra features in the XB and PS2 were minor additions, it all adds up to cost. If Nintendo can produce a console for £20 less than Sony can make a PS2, remeber by the time the GC came out, the technology was cheaper also, put 2 and 2 together and you've got a console making similar profit per unit being sold off the shelf for less than a new console lunch.

Ontop of that Nintendo have a very loyal user base, they can predict sales more accurateley so they can see how much of a loss they can manage to make back after launch.

ah i heard something about the DS being as cheap compared to the PSP for that very reason - the manufacturing costs

A lot of compnies will start a new campaign or launch a new product at a loss too, they look at forecasted sales and see how long it would take for that loss to turn into a proftit. If it's quite soon, they can take a bigger loss to undercut their rivals. If Nintendo can offer stuff so cheap Sony and MS customers move over to them, they're succeding, because a profit will come eventually. It's when this goes wrong and they don't get the forecast sales (SEGA anyone), the company ends up in very big trouble.
