One of the great features in LBP is the ability to create unlimited variations of costumes for your sackperson, including customizing the costume items that already come with the game. You can even use the PS Eye camera to make custom stickers which you can then in turn use to customize your costumes.

Given this ability, and in the hands of some creative folks, you'll find lots of really amazing looking sackpeople when playing online. In fact we even have a resident GTPer who is a LBP costume creator pro.

Seeing as there are so many possible costumes, and many LBP users who have been kind enough to share with others on how they made them, it might be nice to have a thread dedicated to showing some of the best ones, and when possible, instructions on how to make them for yourself.

To get this thread started, here are some of the LBP costumes that Omnis has made:

Two Face, Optimus Prime, and Akiba from MGS4:

I have a couple that I will have to add to this.

I guess Omnis is just taking pictures of his screen?

BTW: LittleBigWorkshop has a great resource for inspiration and even instructions on how to make some great costumes. Here are just a few examples I found:

He he didn't list instructions, but there is an old one on YouTube, which is quite good:

In addition, here is another YouTube video of an excellent modern Joker:

Altair

Here is different looking version of Altair, but I don't think it's as good as the one above:

Looking at them I thought they could also be modified to look like a Jedi (Anakin, Obi-Wan, even Qui-Gon if you add long hair) in their traditional hodded robe.

I'll post some more later on.

Made my very own Master Chief sackboy from Halo. Simple green paint on the downloadable Motor storm outfit, with yellow paint on the helmet. Especially good for playing Halo inspired levels online with others.

OK, here are some more I found at LittleBigWorkshop. These are all from RE_pulse who has created an extensive collection of recognizable LBP costumes. Here are some of them:

just a quickie, havent had much time lately, tried to line up the stickers on the torso and zipper.

loved ************** hellboy, got me going on the one i had been developing little by little. the horns are actually the 5 LBP piece, and painting the tail by myself was TOUGH!

Dr. Manhattan

saw someone mention rorschach, had been working on one before i figured how to make my own stickers in create mode, took another run at it.

Sorry, No Clank yet, want to experiment with some of the decorations, may stick a block on his back and a button on the back of his head to see how it looks

went with the bunny ears, his ears are more on the side of his head, but the lion ears are too small for him.

The Mummy

wanted to try a layering effect, you can see it best on the face, i just used the ninja mask, he does have some loose bandages on him, its just difficult to see them in this picture. i used primarily only 2 stickers, the tape and the dirt smear in the realistic section. i would layer some tape down, hit it with the dirt, and then another layer of tape, repeat process. sorry, just reread this, could be confusing, i created the sticker i used for the mummy by using the 2 stamps on a wall in create and taking a picture of them, not by applying the stickers to the body.

Darth Maul
(source)

tried making some contacts for my darth maul sackboy, not difficult to make, pretty tough to line up properly, i hope in a future update, media molecule has a 'hold still' option when youre trying to outfit your sackboy. a rotate character button would not be a bad idea either. still by far the most awesome game ive ever experienced!

Yes but they are using imported images. That's cheating.

Cheating?

Using one of the best features in the game that allows you to create your own stickers is pretty awesome. Not sure how that can be considered cheating? Now photoshoping a pic to make it look like they made an amazing sackperson would certainly be cheating, but I seriously doubt that's the case.

Any way, I went ahead and added a bunch more pics to Post #4 of various sack characters from various members from LittleBigWorkshop.

I'd love to make a bunch of these!

I have made some decent ones, although not nearly as nice as Omnis and some of these other sackpersons posted here. I'll take some pics and post them.

Lol, I wasn't being serious.

Can costumes be downloaded? I'd really like a SackAltair but I can't access the LBP site so when I buy LBP, how will I go about getting these if they're not on aonther source? Unless I could be really annoying and ask someone to get them for me when I need them.

The user created stuff, no. Those are just guys using current in-game tools to customize their character.

There are downloadable costumes on the PlayStation Store though. Some are free and others will cost you.

The LBP site (LittleBigPlanet.com) only shows videos uploaded by users that tell you how to create their custom designs.

I've already seen the PSN Store ones, just wondering if say a friend could send you a costume, aparently not. I can't access those instructional videos as I don't have flash player and can't get it for various reasons which need not be discussed. Which is where my problem arises. Looks like I'll be making my own :)

You have a PS3, go to LBP's site with the browser in there. It has Flash. Although I haven't tried it to see if it works or not.

Or, when you are playing with a friend online you could ask them to step-by-step show you how they made their costume.

Just remember that any part of it that is not just a sticker is a costume item either purchased or found in-game, and if you don't have it you won't be able to use it yet.

Completely forgot about the ps3 browser, but the rockstar social club wouldn't sign me in (it's a flash site). Now I just need LBP. What's a sticker?

So far I have had no issues logging into Sony sites with the PS3 browser since they updated Flash. As some sites are designed specifically just for certain browsers they may not like the PS3 browser.

What's a sticker?
It is basically like a sticker in real life. It is just an image that you can stick on to an object. Some of them are just a solid color so that you can change the color of an object. And if you have a PS3 Eye you can make your own stickers.

In the game they have a basketball jersey with a Media Molecule logo on it. I took an image of a University of Kentucky logo and made it a sticker and put it on there so that he now has a UK jersey. I also put a UK logo on a cap. So, I made a custom design using costumes from in the game, but changed their look with my custom stickers.

Now, say you saw a custom designed character that used custom made stickers and you wanted to make it. That person could send you their custom made sticker. D-N and I have actually used it as a way to trade pictures.

Sounds pretty cool, I don't have an Eye but I will be able to nab other peoples :)

I'll probably make me a little Altair, download the sack snake that I hear is on it's way, and make my own little sack ninja to :)

There are certianly some very creative people out there that can come up with this stuff. My sackboy has the Russian regalia on. I was unaware you could add stickers to the sackboys, maybe I'll have to fire the game back up since Kate is gone for the long weekend and I'll actually be able to use the PS3.

There is already a ninja costume in the game that you get in The Islands levels. Unless you meant the cyborg ninja from MGS, in which case that should be interesting.

At first I meant a normal one, but now I'm tempted to try the cyborg.

Here is a video I made of all my LBP costumes. Dragonistic, the included ninja outfit is in there too, including my pirate/ninja hybrid.

Excellent, my only query is if there's a sword (or other similar weapon, bow etc.)for my ninja that i'll be able to use without DLC (I don't have a credit card)/

Actually the only swords that I have seen so far have been from the God of War or Heavenly Sword sets, so even if you had a credit card it wouldn't help right now.

Play.com claim to have the Nariko costume with every purchase on an advert on the side, but when you view the game it says nothing about it. I might try that.

Don't foget the wooden sword costume item you win for aceing the "Wedding Reception" level. It actually can be made to look like a pretty decent samurai sword with some paint and sticker modifications. I even but blood splatter on mine. :D

Oh well, I hadn't aced that yet so didn't realize that it was there.

Perhaps I should check my game guide before talking about prizes I haven't won yet.

Where on LBP do you get the TV head and the brain head? Yikes!

The brain head I found in one of the story modes. I think it is called zombie brain.

The TV head, or Sack in the Box, is a free download from the PlayStation Store. It was one of the winners in their design contest before the game launched.

As FK said, the TV costume is one of the free ones you can download from the PSN stores.

The "Zombie Brain" can be a little tricky to get without the help of a trusting friend. :)

It's one of the prize bubbles you'll earn when you finish the x2 co-op section in one of my favorite levels, "The Serpent Shrine", which is the last level in "The Canyons".

I'll be happy to try and get you through it. Just send me a message and we can arrange a time to meet in LBP.

I knew I got it in one of my co-op plays with you.

Duke, I hope you like standing on switch buttons with perfect timing. That one was a tad tricky.
