They cut Pink Floyd short for the Tragically Hip??? Did a retarded monkey organize the TV coverage for this? I am severley pissed off right now; this isn't an average band that we can watch later on highlights, this is Pink Floyd. This is a huge event, and they cut it short. Bloddy idiots...

They played 4 songs

Breathe
Money
Wish you were here
Comfortably numb

I thought they would have broadcast it all worldwide, it was magnificent!! 👍

Hope they do a tour now :drool:

Was that it for Pink Floyd? :indiff:

I can´t watch this on TV, so I´ll try to find some torrent of the Pink Floyd show later.

A tour would be pointless for me; I'd never be able to get tickets; they'd all sell out in 5 seconds.

I just saw that the Kaiser Chiefs kicked off the philly gig... good performance too 👍
What did you guys think of them? I pretty sure they're doing promotional stuff there.
They're just making it big over here.

I was up at 1am and watched the start. U2 was meh, I've always thought that Bono was a right munt and that just proved it but however..

I wish I could've seen Pink Floyd, judging by the times people were posting here then they were one an hour ago. I was still asleep :grumpy: I think out coverage ended fairly early anyway..

It was nice to see Pink Floyd. 👍

Shame I missed Velvet Revolver. 👎

I liked the UB40 and Stevie wonder shows as well, especially the latter really lived up the place. Being blind and still putting up a better visual show than most other acts is quite impressive. Of course the music was impressive as well.

My dad was like wtf, is that their song (red, red wine) when UB40 was on, he always thought it was a bunch of black rastas performing that song. :dopey:

You've been living in a hole past week?

Make that 20 years.

Was v. happy to see Floyd performing Money, that song is killer.

Velvet Revolver wearnt great, their second song was alright though.

RazorLight were just awesome, most pleased to see them again.

Joss Stone, outstanding and v. beautiful too :)

U2 were good, which is actually great considering i don't really like them.

I've got the whole thing on 2 videos, anyone want a copy? :p

Just got back from Chiswick where they had the whole thing on big screen and tv's.

Pink floyd rock my socks. They should have headlined instead of Mcartney.

What a great event 👍

^ I have no idea why Pink Floyd wasn't the headliner. This is the biggest possible reunion in music (any other famous artist making a comeback bigger than Pink Floyd would have to involve people rising from the dead).

I'm watching it "live" on TV right now. Coldplay's on. Screw going out... I'm gonna stay for Pink Floyd.

lol here in Windsor every pub had it showing/playing. In the pub we frequent they had five TVs and speakers all throughout the building. Pretty awesome listening to The Floyd whilst necking a cold pint.

Later through the day the performances got better.......but I do feel eariler ones were not that good.......

Paul McCartney at the end was amazing

Here's my brief synopsis of the Live8 show... surely most people will disagree with my categorising... Everyone who took part deserves to be applauded, but of course, some were better than others on the day! :sly: Here's what I thought of it all...

Great :dopey:
* U2
* Robbie Williams
* REM
* Razorlight
* The Who

Despite not personally liking Robbie Williams' music, he put in one of the best performances of the whole day... U2 had a tough job getting the thing started but they did it brilliantly... Razorlight were the biggest surprise though... The Who still know how to rock, and (for me anyway) put Pink Floyd to shame...

Good
:)
* Pink Floyd
* Stereophonics
* Snoop Dogg
* Scissor Sisters
* Coldplay and Richard Ashcroft
* Paul McCartney
* Mariah Carey
* Killers, The
* Keane
* Coldplay
* Annie Lennox
* Snow Patrol

Controversial putting Pink Floyd under merely 'Good', they sounded great and atleast Roger Waters managed to look like he was actually enjoying himself... Scissor Sisters, Annie Lennox and Snoop Dogg all showed alot of enthusiasm, but Coldplay fell a bit flat... Snow Patrol, Keane and The Killers all did well, despite the nerves... I can't stand Mariah Carey, but atleast she proved she can still sing and entertain a crowd.

Average
:rolleyes:
* Travis
* UB40
* Sting
* Ms. Dynamite
* Joss Stone
* Dido and Youssou N'Dour

This category is mostly just my personal preference - was disappointed by Travis, but they've never been too much of a stadium act anyway... Sting is still well and truly up his own ar$e, as is Dido... Youssou N'Dour rescued her set, but still couldn't drown her out entirely... Joss Stone was pretty insipid, and UB40 seemed like they'd never end :sly:

Bad
:ouch:
* Madonna
* Elton John
* Elton John and Pete Doherty
* Velvet Revolver

Of the bad bunch, Pete Doherty has to take the biscuit as the lamest live performance of the day - Velvet Revolver atleast made an effort, but the lead singer's 'bus conductor' outfit was hilarious, and the crowd seemed totally perplexed... Madge's shameless parading of that Ethiopian woman was cringe-worthy, and Elton John seemingly can't pronounce words anymore... still, atleast he was making an effort...
👍

YUP pretty much agree with the list above 👍

Elton John and Pete Doherty was HORRIBLE!!!!!! :yuck:

Madonna was the second worst artist of the day (the worst was by far Celine Dion). Not only did I feel sorry for the Ethiopian woman being led around by Madonna, but that performance of the song music... probably the worst song I've heard in a long time. It just kept going, and going, and going, and going.... I actually used the mute button just so she would shut the hell up.

You've been living in a hole past week?

Apparently so.

Now, would you like to answer my question?

Live8 was a very big concert that took part in different cities around the world yesterday. The purpose of it was to bring the 8 leading countries in the world together to help struggling 3rd world countries out. I don't think they raised money, but instead had the concert to raise awareness.

Anyway, lots of big names played, and Pink Floyd came back together and played an amazing set.

So who else wanted to kill mtv/vh1 for always cutting into songs to do their stupid interviews with the crowd?

I want to bomb CTV for cutting short with Pink Floyd and The Who so they could instead show a bunch of completely insignificant acts while these legends were putting on stunning performances.

emad
Well, take solace in the fact that AOL has an unedited version of the performances on http://music.aol.com/live_8_concert/ :)

Cheers!

The BBC only screwed up on one gig... REM... they cut away to an interview with Razorlight (which was from earlier in the day, you could hear The Stereophonics in the background)... and so we missed the first half of 'Man On The Moon'... also, the BBC didn't show the films that the Live 8 crowd were watching, mainly due to the BBC's policy on impartiality... aside from that, the BBC's coverage was excellent (depending on whether you can stand Jonathon Ross :sly: )
