It depends on the car. The Mazda 787B I think is a sequential gear stick (push for downshift, pull for upshift) while the Audi R10 has paddle shifters on the wheel. Almost none of them have an H-gate shifter.

You're right although in some cases with older race cars the sequential sticks still require the use of clutch for downshifting. That's not the case with recent race cars- in the last two years almost all GT and LMP race cars (with the exception of GT1) have moved to paddle shifting and semi-automatic dual clutch system.

There is a difference- since race cars are meant to be abuse, the dual clutch system is nowhere as sophisticated as the one in road cars. No computer control etc. which means they're usually more clunky in feel and response. The upside is that they don't require kid-glove treatment.

The Mazda 787B has a dogleg 5-speed, I don't think prototypes got sequential transmissions 'till the mid 90's, with paddles coming later.

I don't know man. was driving the minolta and the driver gesture seemed to be going for H-gate... it wasn't 100% vertical, if you know what I mean.

Pretty confident it is as well.

Pretty tough to beat the minolta at suzuka/fuji on the real circuits seasonal using the G27 h-gate with the mazda with racing hards.

Good challenge.
