Remember, remember the 5th of November. Pagani might. With the ink barely dry on the timesheets confirming that their Zonda F Clubsport holds the fastest production car lap time around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, a Swedish tuning firm lowered the bar again yesterday. And by quite a considerable margin too.
In a specially tuned M3 CSL, touring car driver Richard Göransson lapped the track in 7 minutes 22.9 seconds, shaving just shy of five seconds from the Italian supercar’s record set by 'Ringmeister Marc Basseng.
The CSL used has certainly received plenty of attention in preparation for the run. The interior was discarded, and replaced with a roll cage and race seat, while windows and various items of bodywork were exchanged for lighter equivalents.
The exterior also gained some go-faster fins on the wheelarches and a GTR-alike wing. More importantly, the car rides on a bespoke K&W, suspension set-up with big Performance Friction brakes.
Oh, and did we mention the small matter of the supercharger which boosts the CSL’s already healthy bhp figure to around 600bhp.
What’s more, the car is also up for grabs in a lowest unique bid auction with money raised going to charity, but not before another effort to beat the 7 minute 20 mark has been attempted.
Looking at the picture of this CSL it’s hardly the sort of thing that you could use for anything other than assaulting European track days. While we do like the idea of the continuing war on the Nordschleife, it does beg the question just what the definition of a production car actually is?

I think its time someone rung caparo and got the crown to the type of car that deserves it.:D

I'm not saying that isnt deserved, but there are faster cars out there.

Like said at the end, how is this a production car!? It's a tuner car surely.

On a further note, I'm not sure how well the Caparo would take to the rough surfaces, much like the problems with F1 cars.

I wouldn't say this event really matters. :indiff:
Don't get me wrong, that's a great lap and a heck of a feat. However, the car was nothing close to production and still far from the record for street legal cars (held by the Radical SR8 at 6'55). (I think it was an SR8, but it was a radical for sure)

In any case, while this is a great feat of tuning, it has nothing to do with the production car record.
I mean, when you remove the interior, use racing seats, replace body panels, and all sorts of internal working parts, you just can't compare the car with a production street car.

I don't think anyone's saying their trying to pass the new record off as a production car. It clearly isn't.

What it is though, is an amazing feat. It's not everyday a tuner can beat the best of the best production vehicles on the 'Ring.

LOADED CSL Lowers the Ring lap record

...Pagani might. With the ink barely dry on the timesheets confirming that their Zonda F Clubsport holds the fastest production car lap time around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, a Swedish tuning firm lowered the bar again yesterday. And by quite a considerable margin too.

Well...
I'd say they definately are crossing wires.
They are saying Pagani set the record and that this car lowered it.
That would be like me saying a car crushed the Veyron's top speed figure the other day and then I point to a rocket-powered salt-flats monster.

Fact is, they made the comparison and I'm just calling them out on it... Heck this isn't even about the original posting member on the GTP, this is about the piston head people comparing apples to oranges. :indiff:

Someone needs to shout the words DONKERVOORT D8 RS.

and then maybe RADICAL SR8

thats the only news I found of them doing the time , in the end they do question if its production car or not .... is there an official Ring lap time list ? would love to see where the classify it if one exists ... I think I'm going to change the title to something more appropriate

still a great accomplishment anyway

Indeed a great accomplishment but at the same time I'd say pistonheads was in the wrong to even consider using terms like Production car and record.
Fact is, this BMW was a highly modified M3 CSL.
Basically, with just a little more effort I'm sure they could have made a racecar out of the thing. :ouch:

+1

It's an incredible feat, and an incredibly fast time for a road car, but nowhere near the production record... considering "production" means they actually sell a (road-legal) car to a customer, I'd say the Radical still holds that time.

Im gettin K&W coilovers for my car :D

You might also want a big boost in power.

You can do anything when you take a car and lighten it to half it's weight and then put 17 turbos getting you 2840 horsepower.

It was never claimed by the LOADED Team that they beat any sort of record. Only that the car performed great and set a pretty damn respectable time. They might be back in the spring to chase down the EDO Competition Porsche time of 7:15 as this time is considered by the driver of Loaded (Richard Göransson) to be highly possible to beat.

Regards, /Made
