Ive noticed in the last couple of months that
gt5 on my main account is really slowing down
ive got almost 600 cars, 2200 paints, 100 friends
i clear cache every other day ...
i know many of you here have many more cars and replays than me
and i do have a second account for tickets and it loads up 3 times faster than my main account

is there anything i can do to try and fix this problem

i dont play any other game than gt5 really
might have 15-20 other saved games on main account

thanks for reading

No, it just improves loading times. You shouldn't notice anything else. I do it everyday and haven't noticed anything.

I was on the same boat a while back, I only play GT5 and the load times were really getting on my nerves, upgraded to SSD and never looked back, it shaves a few seconds here and there and it all adds up.

SSD aren't worth the $ especially when its 2-4 seconds of a load screen..

My 6.5mb main account is super slow in loading, just becuase of the size.
I would say, play from your sub and share cars from on your main account when you need them.

My sub account is 1.3mb and it goes FAST!!! hehe

Doubly so since a 7200 will perform just as well as an SSD on a PS3.

SSD = Solid State Drive

I only play GT5 on my PS3, it's it sole purpose. and those seconds do add up in the long run or maybe I'm just extremely impatient.

To each his own, for me, If I knew there was a option to make it load faster and not having to wait, then so be in. I don't really think of it as is it worth it, I rather think how much time I'm wasting waiting on the game to load. To me, saving time is more valuable then the cost of a SSD.

video on youtube comparing HDD vs. SSD when playing GT5

so in the end, if money isn't a concern and you want to speed up your load time, get a SSD.

That really depends on the game, most game loads from disc so it won't help on those specific games, for instance MGS4, but on games like GT5 where you can install a large chunk of the game on the HD, that's a whole different story.

as for a 7200 will perform the same as a SSD, i can't disagree with you more. GT5 install data has 10,000+ small files on the HD, in this instance, IOs are more important then transfer speed. For instance, the SSD I'm using can handle 85,000 IOPS (ps3 slow bus is the bottleneck here), there is no way a 7200 can come near that kind of IOs, especially a 2.5 consumer drive that is on the PS3.

hmmmmmm very interesting

GT5 loads faster than most games after that update, you have to give kaz props..
gt5 takes 45-54 seconds to boot up , uncharted games take any were from 50 to 1:04 seconds and a min to load a level , twisted metal takes a min and 10 seconds for the log in and 30 seconds to load a level , little big planet 2 takes 1 min 20 seconds to boot up and 20- 50 seconds to load a level ( up to 2 if its a online level) infamous 2 takes a smooth 34 seconds * its instaled and has no menu so there yha go!* and KZ3 takes 54- 1:05 seconds too boot up , Gt5 fairs very well

SSD with a speed at least 250MB/read/write is the only way for a REALLY FAST GT5 !

My Main account with 630 cars / 2943 paints / all Horns / all Helmets and Suits, is loading from XMB to MY HOME screen in 48.8 seconds...online condition of course.

I use SSD 60GB with about 220-250MB read/write speed (can't remember exactly)

I have over 1000 cars in garage, and loading would typically take 3 minutes to get to the game menu. After patch V2 the game only takes abut 20 seconds to load. :)

With HDD Iam 100% sure it's not possible this time. I know because I have access to a second PS3 and the loading time for my account is at least over 1 minute !

Sometimes I fire up GT5 and put the kettle on or do the laundry, maybe even clear up the random ****e my kids leave everywhere or do the dishes.

GT5 seems to load almost instantly.

What is SSD?

Well, the PS3 and most computers come with HDD, 'Hard Disk Drives'. They have a little disk like a CD that spins and stores data.
An SSD is a 'Solid State Drive' with no disk, sorta like a big USB storage. They are much faster but much more expensive.

Most hard drives can transfer at about 150mb per second. SSD's can transfer at 6gb per second. However I thought ssd's could only transfer as fast as the other components can put out. So what im getting at is wont putting an ssd in a ps3 be kind of a waste of money? It will be faster than a standard hhd but not instant like in a computer with a fast processor and a top of the line mobo. That's what they really are made for.

Forgive my bluntness, as I take no pleasure in knowing you wasted your money, but for others who find this thread they should know the truth.

The speed limitation is at the SATA II connection inside the PS3, 5400rpm cannot meet that limitation, either 7200, 10000, 15000 & SSD all perform above that speed and therefore... Anything beyond a 7200rpm wont benefit the PS3, no matter how big or small.

There was a speed test conducted between a 5400, 7200 & SSD drive in an identical PS3 (with 5 different IO usage games) the 7200 & SSD performed marginally better than the 5400, but often only ever beat each other by fractions of a second, which they concluded meant their utilisation by the PS3 was the same.

I realise it is 'convenient' that I can't find the speed test's link, but I will keep looking and update this post as soon as I can.

Sounds plausible. I'm not a tech geek at all but from what I gather your saying is the ps3 it a bottleneck.

From what I've seen with comparisons and what my friends have done, an SSD does actually make a considerable difference when it comes to big data heavy games. The initial install of GT5 is considerably shorter.

Everyone should scroll down this link and look at the comparisons, because this is the first useful thing I've done on GTP without taking the piss out of someone else. http://uk.ign.com/articles/2009/05/19/playstation-3-hard-drive-speed-test

Yep after reading the link that answers my question. It can only go as fast as the component in the ps3 allow it too go. Mixing new tech with old tech works sometimes but in this instance you would be throwing alot of money away.

I found that link when looking for the original comparison I found, but I didn't think it was very good, I might search again to see if I can find the link that I saw, and that was a very detailed analysis on the differences between the drives.

I believe there is an option in the GT5 Settings that let you have faster loading times. But you sacrifise Space on your HDD for that. Check out the settings in GT5.

You're referring to initial startup option to install to the hard drive.

The complaint stems from those that have already chosen that route.

Thank you for being blunt, and again for thinking of my wallet. :sly:

I'm pretty sure you didn't read my post as I answered everything you were saying. I even posted a link of HDD vs. SSD from youtube.

but if that's not good enough, here are a few more links

as i mentioned before, it will not speed up all your games (as I previously stated) but it will in fact speed up GT5 which is what the OP originally was having issues with.

In your opinion, it's a waste of money, by all means don't buy a SSD, but the fact of the matter is, it will speed up GT5. End of story and your opinion of "is it worth it" is null and void.

technical specs if you wanted more details.

PS3 does not have a SATA II port, it is SATA I and those specs are 1.5 Gbit/s with overhead it comes out to about 150MB/s.

The GT5 install data is about 8GB according to my PS3, that data consist of about 10,000+ small files, in that instance, IOs and access time is more important the throughput. In that case, the fastest HDD (2.5" 15K rpm SAS drives, which wouldn't fit in a PS3 because of the height) will still pale in comparison compared to a medium-end SSD when accessing those thousands of small files. If you doubt this fact, please find someone more knowledgeable in this matter other then yourself and verify what I just said.

So please tell me again who is the one that's providing misinformation?

but for others who find this thread they should know the truth.

Truth is, SSD will speed up GT5, end of story. Please find proof and prove me wrong. If not, I'm moving along with the facts that I listed above. thank you. 👍

Yes it will speed up gt5, fact. It will only be by a few seconds, fact. Is this all worth the 400+ dollar upgrade? Maybe if your rich and have money to burn. For an average joe there is absolutely no value in doing this.

If you are building a major gaming pc rig, then yes an ssd is a great investment.
