I was just wondering if there would be any interest in a Local section? I get kinda bored just driving by myself. Any thoughts?

Sure, I am on the MR2OC.COM's board and we have a "Local" section where people in the same area(be it city, state or region) can organize monthy meets or spur of the moment get togethers and hang out with people who share a hobby.

Theres almost 90,000 members here. How regionalized are we talking about?

Its a good idea, I like it, but HOW regional will they be

This forum would be totally unnavigatable (?) if there were boards about every single region...it's a good idea but it won't happen anytime soon.

But then, over half of the 90,000 members aren't even active...

I'm guessing by country. It would be a little easier to find people near you.

ty91mr2, I see where you are coming from with this, but it really wouldn't be feasable.

I also find it a little interesting that you joined today, and your only 2 posts are in this thread...not having a go, but I would suggest having a look around, and getting to know the community a little bit before making suggestions.

That said, I am sure that the GTPlanet staff would agree with me when I say that suggestions on how GTPlanet could be improved are always more than welcome.

Great idea, but perhaps a little hard/untidy to implement, as you will see in your travels around this big friendly juggernaut well all like to call GTPlanet.net

Welcome to GTPlanet, enjoy your time.

-edit-
Sorry if that sounded a little harsh, it wasn't meant to be! :cheers:

Ah, gotcha!

I think that with GTP's multicultural nature, the smallest we could have regional sections would be by country - though that's not to say it's not a good idea.

We have a GTPlanet Member Map floating around somewhere (though I can't remember where!) which people can reference if they're planning a meet or the like.

Here. Hidden just off the the homepage. I checked the Australia and NZ section and a few names I know. But most are just idiots who like posting a person in the water and writing 'Argh, I'm drowning'.

Could split it up four or five ways, only need that amount of forums then.

America's, Asia, Europe, Oceania and whatever is left. It is probably an easier way to organise local meets and talk to people from your area of the world, but the forum will survive okay without it.
Worth thinking about anyway, those who don't want to post in those forums can just minimise them which is what i do to the computer forums, motorsport forums and a couple of others here.

Why not just post threads like that in the Rumble Strip like people have been doing with Kart meets and whatever?

If you look at some of the other huge forums on the net, like Home Theater Forum , AVS, DVD Talk, etc, they often include a "Locals" forum just for members to post threads for arranging local gatherings in their area. They do not have a forum for every area, as that would be insane... as pointed out in this thread.

All you need is one forum, and then leave it members from each area to start a local thread. These "local forums/threads" are very popular and a great way to meet fellow enthusiasts, and in this case, it would give members a chance to arrange group GT racing events/tournaments in a specific area of the forum thus making it easy for other GTP members who may be interested to contact them.

Personally, I think it is a grand idea, and I would be happy to start a local thread for my area (Austin, Texas) for those who want to get together for some GT racing clinics and tournaments.

My 2 cents worth,

A subforum has the best chance of being created when it turns out that a number of threads are related in some way or another.
I can give you two examples where that has happened. The Missions and Licence forum.
This happened after the thread (which I cannot find at the moment) became so huge that it’s visitors were finding it harder and harder to find the quality posts in that thread.
The other more recent example is in TT. It’s the Tuning & Settings forum.

GTP sort of reorganises itself when something has the potential of growing really large or becomes bloated. The moderators do listen and will implement good ideas but there has to be some form of proof that it is worthwhile putting in the effort.

The following is an example of a reaction to ‘trends’ in GTP
swift
The moderation staff noticed a rather large influx of threads about these two parts of the game. So, Jordan decided to make subform just for them!

Now, only mods can start new threads. If you feel that there is a need for a new thread, send me or another moderator a PM and we'll post it if we find it to be needed.

This forum is strictly meant to focus on strategy and help for the driving missions and license tests. That's it.

Ok, have fun!

So why not try “your” idea in the Rumble strip, create 1 or 2 threads titled e.g.
LOCAL-US Whatever Discussion
LOCAL-EU Whatever Discussion
LOCAL-APMEO Whatever Discussion

to see if there really is a interest for this localisation. If it really does kick off you stand a much better chance of it getting its own subforum.

It seems as if this suggestion was brought up a few months ago, but perhaps I'm remembering things incorrectly. I actually think it's a pretty good idea and wouldn't require too many forums - one for each content, Great Britain, the United States, and Canada. I'd just hate to go to all that work to create so many forums that I am not sure will get a lot of use.

May I suggest you consider just starting one new forum... call it something like "Local Gatherings" or something, and then as suggested by AMG, let members start threads for their areas. If it catches on, and there are lots of threads for various locations from one specific country, then at that point consider opening a sub forum for that specific country.

Either way, having a dedicated forum for local meets I believe will be a very nice addition to an already well thought out forum. 👍

If it's organized properly, I think it would be a good idea. But then, it depends on the areas you include - don't forget Asia as well.

Perhaps if one "Local Gatherings" forum was created, and then new forums can be created based on demand.

ie.

Local Gatrherings Forum
x threads about "A" gatherings -> "A" Forum
y threads about "B" gatherings -> "B" Forum

"A" Forum
Thread about region g -> Region g Forum[/i]
Thread about region h -> Region h Forum[/i]

--------------------

Make sense?

Jordan, you're sounding a bit biased there with US Canada and GB.:sly:

I agree with D-N, start with 1 forum and lets see what happens.

Great, Jordan! This will definetely encourage people to meet each other as it will be all better organised in there. 👍 Maybe in the future I'll be going to one...

Good idea Jordan.

I only see 1 problem. Why suggest something if you aren't going to stick around and use it?

Oh well, our gain.

Yes, thankyou Jordan.
