at first i thought it was just a loose wire or something because it would reset itself in the middle of the game and my car would crash because i had no control of the car, and couldnt pause with the shifter while it was resetting. so i made sure everything was plugged in tight. and it still does it every once in a while. so i thought whatever it was, was just comming loose again due to vigorous playing. but the other night i left my wheel plugged in and started watching netflix. and in the middle of the movie (nobody was even near the racing wheel) the g25 decided to reset again. and i dont know why it does that. i just lost a long race because of it too. how can i fix this?

Because the wheel starts an initialization phase when it receives USB signal, my guess is you've got a port or cable going bad and that it randomly cycles as a result...

ok cool thanks. i think if thats the case it might be in the cable of the g25. cuz ive tried both ports.

I had this suddenly start happening with my new G27. But, I had to add a USB extension to it because when I would move my wheel rig off to the side after racing the cord on the G27 wasn't long enough and would want to pull the PS3 off it's shelf. I had a DFGT before the G27 and the cable was plenty long enough. So, I had to buy a USB extension cable and now it will randomly reset and start spinning. It rarely happens during a race, but it has a couple times. I thought it was just because I bought a cheap USB extension cable, but now that I see somebody else having the same problem it makes me wonder if something is wrong.

I have a similar problem with my G25 using an USB cable extension. During game, i lose control with the pedals although my wheel and shift work.

Well, we have at least 2 of the instances happening when using a USB extension cable, so maybe that has something to do with it. Has anybody had this happen without using an extension?

Always us an active signal boosting USB cable - USB specs only call for signal support over distances less than 5m, some devices will not even get sufficient signal over a 2m cable.

I have had very good luck with the "Cables Unlimited" series of active USB cables from Fry's.

I normally keep 1 or 2 of their "High Speed USB 2.0 Kits" on the shelf at home - the kit has a 2m, 3m and 5m cable.

Its definately the USB extension cable, I have the same issue with my wheel. Suddenly the wheel goes loose and the shifter light starts blinking and the wheel will go through its calibration motions, then everything is fine.

That being said, my reverse doesn't seem to be working anymore, so I'm going to have to take the shifter apart to see whats going on there.

My G27 does it as well in GT5, I also use usb extension cable, although it has happened when plugged direct into ps3.
