Just got a Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel today, but it is impossible to use at the moment.

It is constantly fighting me and in the straights the wheel just goes from side to side meaning the car looks like it's warming it's tyre's the whole time!!

The wheel does not seem broken when tested when I am not racing and seems to have the right amount of resistance too.

I have turned power assisted steering off but that hasn't made much difference either.

Is this a common problem and how can I fix this??

Cheers

Perhaps it may need to be calibrated. Check out the logitech website maybe there is an update for the wheel software.

this is the wheel that i use. it does take abit of time to get used to it, give it a few days and you wont go back. you have to grip the wheel firmly. i have the feedback on 5 which is the default setting

The wheel will fight you, just don't be afraid to fight back. :p

I'm guessing it's just the force feedback. It may feel weird at first, but you will get used to it. Just get a good grip on it and practice.

I have a DFGT and at first it was too much for me, but I progressed and eventually put the force feedback up to 8.

Well it auto calibrate's when the wheel is turned on so I guess that isn't a problem?

The main problem is in the straights where it seems to have a mind of it's own. 👎

It is impossible to keep the car in a straight line.

I think mine is on 7. Might reduce that..

On the straights you will need a good grip as my wheel goes crazy as well.

Is the feedback the same for all the cars you use? Or tracks?

Yeah, tried 3 different cars and all the same outcome really.

Have adjusted the settings to put feedback down to 1, power assisted steering on and also professional to amateur mode. Slight improvement but still doesn't feel like it should.

Other than the races the steering wheel does not look in any way faulty. And my muscles are quite capable of controlling it too...

I have one and run it on FFB 10. You have to hold it on straights, a light grab is enough but if you let go yes it will move around. What you're describing only happens if you completely let go of the wheel.

Look under the options for wheel settings and set to simulation, I believe. Don't be afraid to hold the wheel tight. I would say fight back but I think hold it firmly is more appropriate. You're not going to break it, so put some muscle into it. It takes a week or so to get used to it.

I have one too, and the only time I have had the problem you describe is when I let it go.
I have mine on simulation and FFB 10, it does require quite a bit of force to control it, but so does driving a car at 200+ km/h.
The only time I think it is over the top (which only happened yesterday) is if I spin whilst usung the FGT, getting back on the track over the ripple strips or edge damn near rips my wrists off :)

Cheers for the advice! 👍

It's been driving mad so have had to unplug it for now.

Will try setting it to "simulation" tomorrow.

Thanks

I have a DFP and turned the force feedback down, power steering on, and set it to simulation...MUCH better.

Everyone with a now wheel creates a thread about this it's a bit annoying! It takes some time to get used to a wheel if you never had one before! And it is "normal" that the wheel has its own life in the straight line because of the FFB! If you just hold the wheel strong enough this doesn't happen and don't worry about giving to much force the wheel won't break, as it is made for it ;) Something you can do about is to tune the cars suspension (mainly camber), this holds your car in the line...

Ah and the worst car having this issue is the X2010!

I use this wheel, and it does taking getting used to. Try to have the right amount of resistance in your arms that you can react to the wheel forces. If you're too tight, the wheel will win as soon as force changes (which it always will).

*BUT*.. about the straights, that IS a valid concern. I read somewhere around these forums that a real car will not swerve back and forth on straights. I think it's some sort of programming error for overcompensating past a deadzone that is too small. Sorta like:
- oh car is moving left but driver wants straight, force right
- oh car went too much right but driver wants straight, force left
- repeat until crash.

That straight line wobble is annoying, like the tuners messed up your alignment or something. For the DFP, it's something that you have to get used to, and my above tip for having reactive resistance in your arms (as opposed to rigid arms) will help keep things stable.

I drive with everything default, profile mapped to DFP default settings as well. And yes, the wheel recalibrates every time you start up the PS3 or plug in the USB port, so it's not you ;)

Is this problem only with DFP? Is this also the case with G25 or G27? How about the Fanatec wheels? Do you guys have any problems with your wheel?

Same issue here, using G25. This is because of the deadzone (or missing one) of the wheel(s). From what I´ve heard, this concerns MANY wheels in GT5. Logitechs, Fanatecs, you name it. I don´t know if the T500 has these problems, but that seem to have other issues of its own.

I set FF5, simulation, powersteering off. This crazy left-right on a straight is only a real problem if you driving the X2010. All others are acceptable.

And it is not intended to grip your wheel like a pneumatic hammer. A normal, firm grip is ok and enough to stay always in control 👍

Heres the thing about that...

Race cars have a very stiff suspension and most have wide slick tires, sometimes at a fairly high pressure (depends on the car/series), if you let go of a wheel on a straight there is no guarantee the car will go perfectly straight. Yes maybe on a brand new just paved track, but on any track that has seen some use the stiff suspension and wide tires will make the car follow any sort of ridge, trough, or seam in the surface, Including the wear lines from other race cars going there over years and years on the "dry" line.

So yes the way the wheel swerves back and forth is not realistic, but its not 100% wrong either. The easiest remedy, don't let go of the wheel, you'll never notice it if you do.

i had this shaking phenomenon happen to me once before with the DFGT. I was playing GT4 but its exactly what others have reported. Try unplugging it from the PS to force it to recalibrate. If the problem persists, try lowering the feedback settings.

"you need to grip the wheel hard and grow some muscles. "

This is the standard Logitech fan response to anyone that does not care for this characteristic that stems from a limitation in the design of the wheel, i.e., the built in dead zone at the center position. Return it and get yourself a Fanatec wheel, e.g., GT3 RS V2, if you want a wheel with strong force feedback that you don't have to hold in a death grip on straightaways.

PS - If you decide to go this route, do the firmware upgrade that adds two additional settings (on the wheel): Spr and Dpr. Then set both to -3 for GT5.

I have a DFGT ... Power steering off and FFB on 10 (because I think my FFB may be reduced already lol!)

A nice firm grip should solve the problem but I'd be interested to know if simulation makes a difference.

Just out of interest though, my DFGT must have a dead zone as I can let go of the wheel on a straight and it not wave about!

I noticed this behavior with the DFP as well. so it appears that you are confirming this isn't an issue with Fanatec wheels (GT3 / GT2)? Thanks!

I have mine set @ 10 ffb, power steering off, and on sim. I have only noticed this being an issue with the x2010, so I lowered the downforce setting and it fixed the wobbles.
