Refurb available for $30. I can't afford a DFGT. I'm wondering if this wheel is an improvement over the DS3 and worth buying?

I own one and use it for GT5. Its good value for money IMO, but the lack of pedals and a gear lever might be too much for hardcores.

I drive auto so that's not a problem (read my sig). I'd be happy to use wheel pedals instead of foot pedals. Other than that, no major issues with this wheel?

Its wonderful for casual use, I really like the feeling of driving with it honestly. And the portability is pretty awesome, to me at least.

Well never tried one but the lack of pedals is way too much for me, I don't care so much about gear shifting but.... no pedals? Half the fun (and realism) is gone IMHO! And it has to be placed on your legs, not so comfy, for me at least, and stable....

But considering that it costs only 30 bucks... go for it and have a good time, but before buying take a look around and see if you can find an used DFGT somewhere...

I think you should save for the DFGT. You will have remorse for missing out on pedals which is part of the purpose for having a wheel. If you ever do upgrade you don't want to become use to driving without pedals.

That is what I used up until last fall when I got a DFGT. It's a far cry from the experience with the DFGT but I would still recommend it over the dualshock. You have good gas and brake control using the paddles and still have the force feedback. Had mine for 2 or 3 years and still works perfectly. It is still used when company comes over for 2-player races.

I have one, and for $30 it's great. I was in the same boat, just couldn't afford another more expensive wheel. I have a G25 attached to a Playseat that I use for iRacing and rFactor, but it's hooked up to my computer at my office. But more than the cost, I like having a very small, wireless footprint for the TV room where the PS3 is. Once you get the hang of the wheel paddles, it's no big deal, and I don't have any problem at all going between a G25 with pedals/shifter and the all-in-one wireless. In all honesty, GT5 isn't "sim" enough to worry about it.

It stays fairly stable on your lap, and the "pontoons" have slots in them, so if it slides around too much for your liking, you can put a nylon or similar strap though it and wrap it under your legs to really lock it down. I don't find that necessary, but a friend of mine with the same wheel does that.

I had one for two years, and it gave me tendonitis in my right (gas) shoulder. The squeezing and turning the wheel did me in, but I used it for two years with no trouble. Then one day, "Ouch".

That's what i've been using since the days of GT4 & honestly it isn't that far off of the DFGT for realism. It looks basically the same (Only visual differences are the RA menu switch, PS button & horn) & has a cool feature that lets you use it in either 900* mode or 180* mode. This is great for learners to both racing & drifting.

O.o & it uses pedals

EDIT: for that price, just buy the wireless one. You will not regret it!

One thing about the wireless one is you don't need a table to clamp it to. If anyone is like me, the coffee table sitting in front of the couch is way too low, and I'd need an additional stand/playseat to clamp it to, at minimum a desk height platform and an upright chair. I love being able to slouch on my couch and drive, and being able to quickly put it away when I'm done by simply setting it on the floor on the side of the couch.
