Hi,

So ive been looking into changing the gear knob on my g25, simply because the standard one looks, well, too standard. Ive read briefly that universal gear knobs fit on with no problem, just wanted to know if this is true before having the trouble of buying one then finding out it doesnt fit.

p.s. i dont want to alter anything on the shifter which means i cant re-apply the standard one, incase i decide to sell it.

Any help will be appreciated, many thanks,

Brad

Most universals come with a plastic spacer and a set screw. Easy install with some fiddling. Also some muscle car ones with threaded holes work. Just wrap your shifter with electrical tape and screw onto that. All can be reverted to original too.

You should do what I plan on doing when I have the money. Make your own. may cost about 80 bucks to make one, but you would have a molding to make infinite amounts that you could make for yourself or sell.

Hi, i confirm you can use almost any aftermarket knob, but just be sure to buy the lightest possible. If you put one that is too heavy, it will take away all the shifter resistance.

I'm sure you could do it for less than that, but I don't know how much liquid latex nor resin cost. My sister has made jewellery out of resin in the past, and all she did was carve a bar of soap into the right shape (cheap and easy to carve), then made moulds from the soap using liquid latex. Then you just pour resin into the moulds, let it dry, paint it (if necessary) and that's it. I'm planning on getting her to make me a skull shifter that actually fits the G27 shifter stalk rather than being a universal clamp on type, but making the top cap might be tricky. Maybe I'll get her to make a top hat to go with it to cover the screw hole. Resin is quite light too, I think, so it shouldn't unbalance the shifter action either.
