Long loading times for online Matching

I am hoping this is not a repeat post.

A very big frustration myself with online play is that once I 'start' a race I seem to have wait for ever for matching players (eg enter race, go a pour a pint, come back, it is still matching..). I have tried different events but still get the same results.

Is this common, is my BB too slow (2MB), or are there any settings I should check ? I have had no problems with any other game so I am thinking it is GT5P specific.

I would appreciate feedback from others (good & bad).

Matching takes longer if less people are looking to join a race type.

You need to take a look to the left of the race, you will see little 'people' icons, the more people the quicker the matching will be.

I run a 2meg line (cable so its a true 2meg as well - if you are in the UK and using a telephone broadband connection you may well not be getting a true 2meg) and those races with more people in do match much, much quicker.

Take a look at the in-game manuals as it explains the process in quite a bit of detail and which icons mean more people (which means quicker matching).

GTA4 is out so there are quite a lot less people playing GT5P. Also the lastest update ha added many more races then we had before so what players are left are even more spread out.

Combine both and you get your long waits.

I'd prefer a small race with quicker load times. When it's slow, around midnight, that's the end result anyways.

Once again, Private Rooms seem to be the answer.

I tested the different nat types and noticed a significant speed difference going down the scale.. also though my matching time is always about the same, never really changes at different times of day.

direct internet was extremely fast and my current nat 3 with port 3658 is about double that but still fast, without port fwd it was very slow.

Sometimes it can really be a nightmare. A big factor can be your wireless connection. I have exclusively played online wirelessly and on one network I had long wait times and trouble connecting to the host and on another it was really fast with no problems. I think as the number of players grows and they work out the kinks it should be better. Until then, have another pint as you wait to join the game.:dopey:

I've logged several hours over several days racing online and noted the time it took to complete the matching process and pretty quickly came to the conclusion that the time it takes to match has nothing to do with your internet speed, but rather the apparent fact that each new race has a set start time. If you begin the matching process when the start of the next race is not for another 2-3 minutes, then that's how long the matching takes. This is why some times the matching process takes less than 30 seconds... because the next race started that much sooner.

I tested this theory by starting matching processes and if the bar is moving slowly, I simply cancel the process. Then I wait about a minute, then start the processing, and voila, the matching process is now faster... except the overall time is exactly the same.

After several tests, I got the exact same results each and every time, where by I could accurately determine when each race would start based on the speed of the matching process after only a few seconds.

Bottom line, don't sweat it. The races have fixed start times, and based on when you started the matching process is how long it will take for the race to start.

A slow connection isn't going to lengthen the matching process, it just means you have less of a chance to host a race, and a chance you might get disconnected during the race... at least that's what my personal experience has shown.

^^ excellent observation, that is very logical judging from my experiences over the weekend.

Online is very hit & miss - good & bad races. The bad predominating at the moment but you just need to chill. I like experimenting with tuning of unusual cars, it seems some people just use the same car over and over again.

My main frustration (not helped by good online with other games) is the time it takes from deciding; I want an online race - to actually being in a race, and then the random races -> you can find a bad bunch and not get away from them :grumpy: because you seem 'tied' to them. There has to be more one race going on somewhere for each event.

PD: we need a lobby.

That's resolved quite easily by not immediately entering the next race after cashing in your credits. Just give it 30 secs or so before committing again. Usually you'll join another race.

AMG.

That's excellent advice. I don't take the online races to seriously at this point, other than to get a better idea on how others drive, the cars they elect to use, and their typical finishing times... because I find it interesting. Granted, without knowing exactly how they have tuned their cars the data is not very precise, but still interesting.

That said, what really bugs me are the people who are hosts that seem to continually disconnect for one reason or another. In that case, what I do is simply change online events and then after that race or two I'll switch back. This way I'm still enjoying some online racing, but also getting out of synch with the drivers I wish to avoid having to deal with. 👍

AMG - thanks, I tried that but it does not always work. Also, it adds to the time btw races which is not helping my online experience.

H_S2000 - use the search function, I updated with my own experience recently.
