Hey, I just noticed you can get a late 80s early 90s vette for less than $15k, too. Sic, I think you have a lot more choices out there than you think you do. And a 90-93 corvette will out perform just about anything else out there in the same ballpark. I think that's just about the fastest car you could buy for under $15k.Straight line, around a track, whatever. unless you need rear seats.

Once again I will recommend a Corrado VR6, you get great power, decent mileage, and there are quite a fews parts for them.

No Corrado if he needs an automatic.

Show me an M3 for $8k.

I'm done adding posts to this thread after JParker's and a few others. Some people haven't got a clue.

I have looked at those old cars, like that old vett u mentioned, as well as an older 911 for under 20 grand, i will always keep those in mind but itll be hard for me with my minimal mechanical knowledge, but working with a body shop helps, a lot.

One of my workers actually bought a 1990 supra from an old couple for 3.5k!!! I was like O.O, he said its a nice car, i got so jealous. One of my body shop workers has an old 65 or something mustang with so much work done to it, it looks brand new.

The M3 is something I want. I never even thought o a BMW in the first place.

The only reason id ever want a performance vehicale rather than somthing that can just go fast, is if I can ever find out how to join in on real track apex races, I havent got a clue =(

-EDIT-

By the way, I dont want an automatic if i can help it, id much rather stick shift 👍

My first two choices for light and fun.

Mk1 MR2, and then the Miata.

Both handle extremely well and are fun. Niether have crazy power, which will help on insurance. And you can find Mk1 MR2s for under 3 grand. Hell, I'll be selling one in Washington for under 3 grand in sometime this summer.

Lots of mods for both. Turbo, supercharger, array of engine swaps, etc.

Sorry - I got you confused with someone else. Christ. Check out the 1992-1994 Volkswagen Corrado SLC, though I have to warn you on reliability. That, and it's front-drive. Still, it's way sportier than a lot of the trash mentioned in this thread (*cough* 240SX *cough).

Ok, so I was off by $1400

Yeah - for a first year model with modifications, an "awesome stereo," non-stock wheels, and 115,000 miles. This car was probably sold new in late 1987 - that's nearly eighteen years ago!

Then you would probably have to add another $200 to fly out and see it . . .

And another $600 to ship it... and another $1500 to get it back into legitimate condition... :p

Which is within spec of the "15 grand" budget limit. . . I will grab that tongue outta your mouth ;)

Just because you can find an E30 M3 for under $15000 doesn't mean it's worth a purchase or even a look. Try maintaining a 20-year-old BMW, then try maintaining a six-year-old Mazda. He'd break the $15k budget in three years.

Why he'd buy that kind of headache when he can get a 95-96 M3 for about the same money (after 3 years of repairs) is beyond me. I don't think he wants a car that old anyway. I'd bet a little tuning on a 96 328 would get him a lot better performance than an 88 M3, and newer and better reliability to boot.

I am going to start browing through the internet for local cars in my area and gonna try and get this show on the road this weekend. Ive decided im gonna go for something under 10grand with less than (hopefully) 80k miles on it.

My first choice is to look for an Eclipse.

OK. I havent read all this thread but if there are many in America, i would buy a Honda CRX and you would have plenty of money left for mods.

Well, you're welcome to come visit Yellowstone park and check out this 400 horse AWD TSI (Eclipse GSX). New almost everything. And I still think you ought to be looking at a 96-98 BMW 328, too.

I called a dealership about a car i found on the net.

Its a 1999 Eclipse. It only has 46k miles, its a stick shift, leather interior and power everything. Pix of it look fresh and clean, but im going to see for myself. Should be test driving it this week or next. 👍 hopefully insurance wont be -too- bad on it.

What kind of Eclipse? I had an Eclipse at one time, it was a Spyder with quite a few mods...I look back now and wonder why in the hell did I own it. If you get an Eclipse look for a high insurence bill.

So you are getting PLPD on your new car then? Mine was something like 2700ish every 6 month. It was a spyder but I has full coverage on it. It's stupid to get PLPD on a newer car, you will wreck it eventually and you will want money for it.

But other then that it's not a terriable car, lowish miles is always a plus.

PLPD = Personal Liability and Property Damage. And if you are paying that little you must be putting it in your parents name because there is no way insurence would be that cheap since its a sports car and you are 18. I'm 20 and my truck is still in my mom's name till July, thats when I'll get an insurence break. I pay something like 1400 in my moms name and thats on a station wagon.

If you put the car in your name you would be paying somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 or something like that.

thats not that bad, im payin something like 140 now for my current car.

I cant get the car for another week or two, my dad wants to see it first before he co signs and he wont be back until the 17th. :(

on another note, i cant wait to get my next car. Hopefully that car wont be sold in the mean time.

I'm in this situation myself. Looking for a car for under 16k. What you all have to remember is that $16k means you can get a loan for a car topping out at that and be able to afford payments, not that you've got $16k in pocket. Anyway, I'm choice in that respective range is an '02 WRX. They can be had, in good condition, with <40k mi, for under 16k.

Well I guess that the car dealership did a little "bait and switch". I got to the car dealership, 50 miles outta my way, and when I got there, the guy says "oh, we sold it about 15 minutes ago". So he was like "how about this 01 mustang?" and "this srt-4?" I about told them to **** themselves. I told them I don't have much money and I don't want to go over 200 bucks a month in car payments, and they were like, "can you do maybe.. low 300's?" I was like OK no. They wanted to get rid of this SRT-4 they had or something. I test drove some 01 Mustang. It was nice, but the shifting felt really heavy. It look way too much outta me just to shift gears. The interior was way too tiny anyway.

So anyway, I guess I'm not getting that Eclipse. I'll find something else, maybe I'll go for a stock turbo eclipse, or a 240sx. Never know, but I'm going to find another one this week.

I hate dealerships. Look on autotrader--you'll get a much fairer price, and you won't have to put up with dick heads. And they'll actually let you know if they sell it to someone else before you drive out there!

Problem with that is, I found the car on autotrader 👎 , it was a dealership selling the eclipse.

Im going to just try to do private sellers. Much cheaper.
