So, I want to learn the play the drums. I'm moving into an apartment in July, so electronic drums are the only option. I've heard that even though the drum pads are touch sensitive, that it's really different than playing on acoustic drums. Is this true? If I learn on an electronic kit, will that hurt my ability to learn/play an acoustic kit later? Does anyone have any real experience with electronic drum kits? Can someone recommend me a brand? A specific model even? I'm not looking for some uber kit that a professional would use, and I know that a decent one can be had for around $500. I don't have a budget right now so I don't know exactly what I'll be able to spend on it either. Can someone recommend some drumming forums maybe? All help is appreciated. :)

I would also recommend Roland V Drums:

I've heard them live as well as in the studio. They've come a long way in their realism with the technology that their putting into them now. A good set won't be cheap. The same techniques apply on a electronic set as do a acoustic set. If anything, you should be able to learn how to play with a lighter touch and just turning up the master volume if you need more umph. Should you move over to a acoustic set, mic it up and the same rules apply and you will make everyone in the band (including the sound guy) very happy. They also work great for live. Just a monster mix on your drums with little to no setup.

Good luck.

Hey, if Neil Peart and Greg Gregg Bissonette uses those, they must be good. :D Haha, thanks Pako, I'll definately check into them. They may cost more than what I really want to spend but I've wanted to play the drums for so long, I don't care.
