I want a game like second life only...better, because it takes FOREVER to load anywhere you go. Perhaps a game that you download all the "maps/worlds" you go and you could perhaps choose what areas to download, and that there would be updates too perhaps.

It almost sounds like WoW, except you dont have to worry about dying, you can go pretty much wherever you want without a huge monster eating you, and you could just explore and talk to people if youd like.

Anyone know of such a place that exists? Second life is almost there, but with the constant loading it slows the game down so much and it looks crappy with the places not loaded

Second Life is crappier for more reasons than just loading time. I haven't seen anything else like it, though.

You've got a PS3, yeah?

...When is that HOME thing coming around?

Well, there's The Outdoors. They're free; no downloads; mad tite high-poly graphics; almost 6.5 billion users, and thanks to neurosensory perception, you can actually FEEL how your actions impact people.

You could also get a PS3 if you don't have one already and wait till they release HOME, which will be completely free.

Oh, got tree'd on that one.

Can't argue with Year.Zero

Google 'VR worlds' or 'virtual reality worlds', maybe 'metaverse', or similar. More and more programs/sites like this get launched daily - granted, there are more MMORPG's like WoW than pure social worlds.

A friend of mine used to go on Active Worlds a lot, and tried to get me into it. I didn't really care for it, but this was a few years ago - I'm not sure how it is now... but I doubt it'd be better than Second Life.

you could also try http://www.entropiauniverse.com/ or http://www.wurmonline.com
These kind of sit in that grey area between a boring 3d chat client and an explorable MMORPG. There is combat in them, but you can avoid it if you choose.
