Like the title says, I would like to get a monitor with PS3 support (I assume HDMI or some HDCP DVI [I can buy an adapter for that]). I cant have it to expensive either. I am looking at a maximum of $250AUD (Australian Dollars) and a minimum screen size of 19".

I know there are some monitors out there for my specifications like BenQ for example but I wouldnt want them to have colour bleed/ light bleed/ whatever you want to call it happening.

Please suggest some monitors guys, thanks in advance.

I like my Acer H233H. 1920x1080 resoluion, 23" widescreen. HDMI w/HDCP, DVI, and VGA.

My Samsung P2250 is very similar, 22". HDMI, etc. Excellent picture quality. About £150, not sure what that is in $AU. But it is excellent, ie, a Samsung.

Samsung P2370HD I just got one and it works great even with my PS2. With PS3 HDMI connection plus PC or TV too.

Also got ASUS VK266H with built in webcam. Works well with PS3 but some issues with PS2 connection. If you don't need the TV tuner or speakers the ACER P241W works with HDMI on the PS3.

That is apparently the same model but it doesnt say it has HDMI. If there is some hidden thing that I dont understand then please explain. If there is something else that means it has HDMI then I might be able to look at some of the other ones on that site. I am using that site cause it is close to where I live and has tonnes of monitors. I have looked at a few on there.

Here is a couple of links that I looked at the other day and considered.

That is big but apparently has bleed.

That is pretty cheap and the review doesnt fault it.

This one here is the one I am definitely considering most:
http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=143&bid=5&sid=48670
Mainly because I have a smaller asus of the same design ( http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=143&bid=5&sid=38043 ) and it is a very fine quality screen. It is also pretty cheap, I imagine 1080p with the PS3 on that would look splendid.

If you guys find any others tell me.

DVI can do full HD.

You can get HDMI to DVI cables.

or

Though the description is wrong, it's not VGA. That's what you want cable-wise.

Hmm, makes the ~£35 I spent on my 1-metre HDMI cable seem cheap...

Honestly, I've never used one, it might be worth finding a specialist TV shop near you (You got a Sony store near by?) and ask them for advice, I wouldn't like to know what is and what isn't. Research it, look at reviews.

Or which one of these, I already have the HDMI cable when I use my PS3 on the lounge TV.

*snip*
EDIT: I must be having a complete brain fart. You'll need the female HDMI and male DVI adapter.

Also, where does the audio go?
On the monitor you said you liked, the specs show that it has SPDIF, so just use a Toslink cable

$2.14, but shipping is almost $29. I'm sure you'll be able to find something a bit closer to home, though. ;)

Bah, WTBS.

If you went for the Samsung, you'd need to connect your PS3s AV multi out to your speakers. Monitor speakers are rubbish!

Wtf ****? I am not really good at this but have I read this incorrectly?
Input: 19-Pin HDMI

Hdmi has Audio does it not? Oh god this is annoying, however if I can use some of the cheaper DVI 1080p monitors with an adapter that would be good. Hmm...decisions decisions.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I also already have a few optical cables lying around.

HDMI and DVI are practically identical, with the exception that HDMI can carry audio too.

So if you're got a Display that can play audio over HDMI (and I'm assuming all Monitors that have built-in speakers and HDMI do, otherwise HDMI is pointless), then you just need a single HDMI cable from the PS3 to the Monitor, and you'll get Video and Sound.

If you get a monitor with DVI (But no HDMI), you'll need to go "PS3>HDMI Cable>HDMI/DVI ADAPTOR>DVI Cable>Monitor", just for the picture. And to output the sound you'll need another set of cables from the PS3 too whatever you're out putting the sound from.

But as stated before, monitor speakers sound like ass anyway. So it's probably worth researching what a cheap 2.1 set of speakers will cost and use those, as even the cheapest ones will probably sound infinitely better than the monitor speakers.

For the DVI I only need a tiny adapter with no cord, it will plug right into the monitor and my HDMI cable will run straight to it. As for audio, it is a problem at the moment. I dont even know if I can get a monitor for Christmas but ill see.

Ok, I will almost definitely be getting this for Christmas but I have one little problem.
Asus VH232H 23 inch Wide Full HD 5ms HDMI SPK

It does HDMI but I dont want the audio coming out of the monitor. Where can I find some PS3 compatible speakers that are around 50AUD? Also, if you can find some good ones but they arent PS3 compatible (different connector) then what adapter will it need.

Any speaker with a Toslink (fiber optic) connection will work. I think you might be hard pressed to find one for $50, though.

Yeah, I know about optical, I have some cords for that here. What if I got a whatever connection to Toslink or Vice Versa, would it work too? So then I can use some cheaper speakers while remaining 5.1 I hope.

Alrite here's how I have mine set up: I'm running an Asus VK222U, basically the same model as yours but smaller (22").

Buy some PC speakers which run from the normal cables (forgot what they're called, can somebody help me out? The orange, green and pink cables) and buy a converter which will convert that to the RCA audio cables (white and red). You'll need to have the monitor running through a HDMI cable and the audio running from the normal PS output which you need to plug in like usual. Run that through the converter so it'll convert it into your PC speaker cables. Then access the Settings in your PS and scroll down to Sound Settings. Hit "Audio Output Settings" then click "Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI." Should work then.

Yeah thats what I was thinking, I can probably find some decent 2.1 speakers or some cheap 5.1's. I saw some 5.1's for around $50 and they would sound good.

I piped the PS3 audio through my Mac to my speakers. A friend of mine pipes audio through his PC. This way, you don't have an extra set of speakers if you play in front of your computer.

I use a 2.0 setup since there's no room for a subwoofer where my pedals are. :)

Ok, now that I know I have the monitor under my christmas tree I need to find a place that sells adapters that goes to the pc connection (pink, green and orange) from RCA, the red and white. I need a place in Australia, Ebay would be my last option, I just need to know the name of the PC connection.

Which route are you looking to take?

PS3 --> Speakers
or
PS3 --> PC --> Speakers

If it's option #2, you should be able to use a cable like this one. Red/white from the PS3 to the Line-in on the PC then Speaker jack to the speakers. If you're intending option #1, a similar setup should work but you'll need a 3.5mm female jack instead of the male version in my link.

I am going to have video from PS3 to monitor via HDMI. I do not want the HDMI audio from the monitor, I want the audio to come out of the seperate speakers which have the orange, green and pink connection. The audio will go from the PS3 to the speakers, I just want to know what adapter to buy to make it happen.

Looks like it should. Red/white audio out from the PS3 to that adapter to the 3.5mm input for the speakers.

The exact same part from the exact same seller is available on ebay.com.au.

Edit: I finally took a look at the specs of the monitor ( :dunce: ) and it looks like you should be able to output the audio from the PS3 to the monitor over the HDMI and then headphone jack form the monitor to the speakers. No adapter required.

Would the sound quality be better using an HDMI cable and going through the headphone jack than using red and white? Or in the end are they the same? Either way it doesnt matter, even if it does come out the same HDMI is easier.
