Hey guys, I have about two weeks to find a car. I don’t really have the security to take out a big loan at the moment, so a second hand car will have to do. Specs:
Budget: 8,000–10,000 AUD (About 7,000–8,500 USD). Insurance is also a factor. I’m not sure if I should get comprehensive insurance, but I guess for 10K I probably should, so something fairly affordable in-terms of insurance would be a real plus.
Power: Doesn’t matter, my old car had less than 50 BHP and I have kept up with cars such as a Porsche Cayman on twisty roads (including passing it around the outside of a hairpin), so I don’t need power to have fun.
Handling: Handling must be good. A car is nothing for me if it can’t corner quickly and respond to my input. My old car lacked quite a lot in this department, but since it was light I was able to do things such as in the above story. RWD would be preferred, but probably isn’t realistic for the budget.
Weight: Again, has to be pretty light. I want something nimble.
Reliability: I want this car to last at least 4 more years, so something that isn’t too old would be preferred. I really don’t want to buy someone else’s problem, so if you could give me things to look for to see if I’m buying a lemon or not would be really appreciated.
Most important factors (in order): reliability, budget, handling.
