most online lobbys are open to the public. if someone is having a private match, they would use their private lobby, these will not show up on the select lobby screen. best guess is a general race or drift or tune room with a large amnt of players.
Try a shuffle race from the public lobbies .. an excellent way to get into online racing I reckon. It basically gives random, (somewhat) equally matched cars to all entrants, and will "shuffle" them between races to try and even everything out.
I suggest you enter a lobby for free running or drifting without much restrictions with a relatively large number of players, would be hard to adapt ypurself to the room where there are few players and lots of limitations once you breach one of the rules or do offense to them.
Look for free run `road rules + cops` rooms, they`re the best/easiest/funest way to get into online driving, as they`re pretty much chill out rooms that let you take things easy, but can also be a right laugh if the right people are in there.
I`ve made a few good PSN friends in `cop rooms` as they usually have good hosts that don`t stand any crap from idiots & immediately kick them if they refuse to behave, or use an inapropriate car (usually anything not street legal).
Usually, if the host is away temporarily & any stupidity happens, most people in the room get their cop cars out & gang up on the idiot until they either start to behave, leave on their own or the host comes back & kicks them.
If anyone`s got bored with online racing, go into a cop room, I guarantee you`ll have fun in there.
