Personally, I like the insane pieces of hardware that Toykoflash offer.

Complicated. Crazy. Attention-getters. Conversation starters. Totally unique.

Otherwise, I'd rather save some cash and buy a Timex. Classic looks, cheap price. If I break it, lose it, whatever... I'm not going to cry about it. Not like I would with a $1500 Omega.

And before someone asks, the reason for wanting a nice watch is because I would look like a fool if I showed up wearing a $700 business suit wearing a $60 Casio. A watch makes a huge statement for a guy (official jewellery line there!).

Problem with making a huge statement is that people may not like it! Spending $1500 on something that performs its task to the same degree of accuracy as your $60 Casio may also make you look like a fool.

I'll confess I'm not a 'watch guy' (I wear a £35 Swatch), but a friend always takes great delight in showing me 'his latest Breitlings', I think he has four now.. his latest watch was a TAG Grand Carrera something or other, if I had to choose - the Tag looked better than the Breitlings, on the grounds it isn't quite as 'showy', and I percieve the TAG brand to be more about timing, than about jewellery.

True... Wasnt really taking his budget into account when I made that comment... :P

* Crazy Watches with no numbers *

Ummmm... I really dont know what to say about these.... How on earth do you read time on them... especially that black one with the red "grill" or whatever it is... If a hot chick were to ask me the time, she'd be long gone before I even figured out what the time was... :P

What about Jacques Lemans? Motorsport-y name and they do the F1 watches.

I've looked at several Jacques Lemans watches, I just need to find a place around here that sells them so I can try one on.

Yes, Citizen watches are also a good deal to look for.

Citizen watches are cheap, the Eco-drive is decent but a majority of the watches we have to repair at Citizen's. I don't trust their build quality. I really don't want a Japanese watch either.

Be a man. Get a man's watch...

Those aren't manly, those are hideous. Plus I don't want to look like GI Joe.

They are funky and cool but I need something that doesn't make me look like a huge Japan nerd. Plus I need something that I can read .

In the business world I'm guessing it won't be a problem. Some of the people I've already met at my new place of employment rock watches I know cost well over $10,000. Showing up in a $1,500 is going to look cheap for them so I'm not really stand outtish. And if I get a subtle sports watch most people aren't going to know, but those who know watches will.

Fair enough. You know the people you will be dealing with far better than me!

For what it's worth, get an expensive pen too! My MD always judges people by what pen they write with!.. then their business card... and if it's a woman, their shoes?!

I have a couple Montblanc pens, I do need a good business card case though.

Dude, Brad, get out. Just go.

Ha ha, avast ye! But, in all seriousness, yeah these watches aren't for everyone. Occasionally my Sci-Fi mind overruns everything. Damn you Blade Runner!

Its all a bunch of maths, and actually when you read some of the explanations, they either "work" or still seem totally crazy. I think that once you get the hang of it, its all second nature. Actually, I think the instruction manuals are all posted on the website so you can see before you buy...

Understandable, and you're right, they aren't very professional. But, and this will sound weird saying this, I really don't think a massive Tag Heuer or Rolex really plays the part either. I just seems like having a watch, a really nice one at that, is something that you grow into, not something you hit the ground running with. Its something earned, I guess. To me, it comes off kinda douchy when a young 20-something shakes hands with me and some $1000 watch slips out of his sleeve, like he has something to prove by wearing it.

Lets put it this way: Get a watch that suits where you feel you are in your life. Find one that matches your wardrobe, and fits with your personality. Don't worry too much about how much its worth, because if its a nice looking watch, no one should be worried about that.

I still love my Seiko Sportura. There are like four or five different Sporturas, so you'll prolly find one that suits your style.

The Chase-Durer was what I wanted when I got my Seiko. I wanted one of the $300 ones, as I thought I finally needed a "grown-up" watch.
The Seiko was twice as dear money wise, but I'm glad I have it over the Chase.

I worked with a guy that had a Ball. Very cool watch, and not everyone has one.
But I LOVE the way the Hamilton Ventura looks. It was originally designed in the '50's.
And I thought they were pretty cool BEFORE one showed up on Will Smith in MIB.
