Over the past week or so I've been looking into building or buying a cockpit for my ps3 and gt5. I've decided on buying the g27 but as far as seats go I don't feel like spending almost $450 for a seat rig. I'm 6'3 so I cant really buy something that is not adjustable or too small. I was wondering if you guys could help guide me in the right direction towards buying or building a decent seat rig. I'd also like to hear from people who have experiences with various setups. Thanks :)

PVC tubes and plywood, is the easy and cheep way to go.
SketchUP (freeweare) is the easy way to model it.
I could provide you some basic information (measurements) if you tell me your preferable position of driving.

Here is a PVC model of mine designed to meet all kind of driving positions:

Check out my rig in my sig. It is capable of fitting someone up to about 7' 6" and I have had a 4' 9" sweetie fitted nice and snug :). In my rig on one of the pages are blueprints for the rig.

It is made out of 1" and 1 1/2" steel tubing. It is very solid and lightweight. So far 2 individuals have built this rig in North America besides me.

That pvc one looks really nice. I would like to make it out of steel but if it requires welding icant do it because I neither have a welder nor know where I could borrow one. Thanks for the help guys. 👍

If the pedals and seat are adjustable I could probably just make it to fit someone who's 6'3. Looks like ill be building this one because that scrc is bigger than what I'm looking for. Thanks again

First thing you should do is hammer down exactly what your budget for the rig is. That one is a biggie because it can go up for retail rigs depending on add-ons. And in the case of DIY, you will most likely run into un-forseen expenses.

Regarding rig adjustability:

• Some Retail rigs with small footprint have lengths as short as 50"/127cm, but have an adjustable seat.

• Some of the retail rigs with non-adjustable seats have frames that adjust from 53"/134cm up to 61"/155cm.

• Retail or DIY, pick a design with ample wheel deck support in case you decide to upgrade to a high-end wheel later.

Recommend you spend some time on the Gran Turismo compatible wheels and cockpit index thread.

That may also help you give you some ideas for DIY and which kind of materials to use or buy.
Other forums such as ISR, and f-wheel.com have great rig threads.
ISR has some very informative videos of DIY rigs they have done too.
