I'm looking to move from controller to a rig on GT6 for PS3 (eventually moving to PS4 and possibly a PC).

I'm looking to stay under $1500, but might make an exception to go over. My biggest constraint is I am big guy (6'1" 260lbs) and years of sport have made it tough to sit down in a gentle manner. So what I'm looking for is something sturdy, preferably without the center bar. Also, I can't imagine it would be effected by my size, but if it factors into the wheel and pedals as well?

To sum it up, any suggestions on a rig for around $1500 (cockpit and wheel/pedals) that could be described as sturdy?

Thanks much!

Are you handy? Build your own. I have built a couple over the years (decided to make a new improved version) and as long as you have a rough idea of what you are doing and some tools (although if you don't have tools you can probably get all the materials you need, plus the tools for the same price as an off the shelf seat, plus you would be left with a better seat more suited to you AND tools for if you want to building anything in the future) you can cook up something pretty decent fairly easily.

Just to give you some examples, here is my current racing set up.

Seat was $100 but you can get old second hand seats like the one in my previous build for much cheaper and if you have sporting injuries then I suspect an old normal car seat would be better.

All the other materials to build it including the little feet and paint and vinyl covering were about $150 all up.

Or, something like my old build, using a freebie car seat and even less materials. You could make the top section on like a hinge to lift up up out of the way to aid in getting in..

Anyway, it all really boils down to your imagination, but you can make them as sturdy as you want and better suited to you and your driving position if you just make it yourself. My current one especially is sturdy as hell, absolutely no movement, squeeking or flex and it cost me less than some of the really flimsy seats out there.

I am somewhat handy, although that's currently going towards built-ins for a closet.

I'll probably eventually go that route once I figure out more specifically what I want, but for now I want something pre-built that I don't have to think about.

Very cool builds, btw.

I'm 6'3" and about 230lbs. This is steel; flex and/or rigidness is not an issue.

I agree 100%. I bought this http://shop.sim-seats.com/SR-2-to-SR-X-conversion-kit-SS-SR2SRX-Kit.htm to upgrade my Playseat Evolution and couldn't be happier. Very solid and well built rig.

Yup - they're inverted G27 pedals. I've been out of the loop so long, I am now a noob in regard to the wheel/pedal sets that are out there these days. I was just looking at the Clubsport setups and became an instant fan. I foresee an Elite in my immediate future.
