I must say that I'm really looking forward to this film, more so than any other movie I can remember.
It opened yesterday in New Zealand (lucky SOB's ;) )
Even more news is that they are talking about making The Hobbit into a movie (even though it was geared toward children, there is plenty in the Hobbit to make an excellent film.)
That prequel will definitely be a better idea than Star Wars' horrible prequels, but perhaps not the pulp fiction prequel in the works.
 
I was a huge fan of TLOTR before the movie was even a glint in Peter Jacksons eye...

i was really skeptical as to whether anyone could make a movie of this and many have tried and failed before him.

with the advent of computer animation where armies can think individually and move independantly and the beauty of NZ it has become possble and i think he has made a wonderful job of it...altough he has messed about with the chapters and left huge chunks out i think it makes this wonderful tale accessible to people who were intimidated by the thickness of the tome.

i will go see this at the cinema over the yule-tide break.
 
ya i like LOTR. my Gf is obsesed with it. i likle it but not as much as some people. same thing with star wars. people act like these movies are the greatest thing ever when they come out. theyre not THAT good. i like it. but the second time around seeing them i get bored. movies i think are great are ones i can watch over and over and not get sleepy. but anyways ill go see it. but i wont be in a rush likle a lot of people. ill probably wait a month to let the crowd die down. hah. my GF will probably have seen it 10 times b4 i go.

Woohoo! I was seriously hoping they will do this, as it will explain in greater detail how Bilbo acquired the one ring. I can't wait for Return of the King either, as it opens five days after my 19th birthday. I am looking forward to the final chapter of the trilogy, as there are large plot holes that were left out of Two Towers in order to make the movie flow better. Hopefully they will be explained.
 
When it comes out, my friend and I are gonna go see all 3 in the theatres back to back. Theyre having an all day thing, showing each one with about a 30-45min break in between each. Its gonna be awesome.
 
Just saw LOTR:Return of the king and it was GREAT :D

I still can't get over the fact that they cut Christopher Lee. Tom M > he wasn't in it was he? Because he was cut from the UK release anyway.
 
he's out, but I knew that before the movie came out because they talk about it in interviews and on the LOTR:Two Towers Extended edition. He was very annoyed by that (rightfully so) but will make his appearance in the Return of the King Extended DVD next year.

Here's something to check out: In the first movie when Aragorn tells the Hobbits he's leading them into the Wilderness he noticably bumps the camera.
Another great moment is that in the first in the scene where Sam and Frodo (early on) are in a field with a Scarecrow, a car drives up the right side in the theatrical version. In the DVD's it's removed except for the extremely obvious dust plume. For anyone with a bootleg of the theatrical, it's worth checking out.
 
I can't believe there hasn't been more talk about this. I saw it last night and it was pretty good. A bit long, though. Seemed like they could have made it about 2 hours and still had the same expression as the current length. There was lots of just sitting there waiting for something to happen.

Also, like in AI, there were several points toward the end where it should have just stopped. But they kept going ... gaaaah, why?! Does he think he's going to make sequals? To what? The entire basis of the movies was brought to an end. Or was it to show us those little bits after everything was done? I believe imaginiation and [the unknown[/i] are more entertaining than what they had to offer.

I think all the movies could have been shorter. The 3 hours+ issue was basically a pissing contest. They could have been 2 hours easy, 2.5 tops.

A friend of mine went to a "LOTR Marathon" where they showed all three movies, served dinner, and had a collectors figure all for $25. He said it was nearly 12 hours ... amazing.
 
So do you have anything else that might be positive towards the movie? :) Why is there a set length on movies anyways...?

Everything in the movie was necessary to correctly articulate the events as it was portrayed in the original stories in written form. I will agree that some of the fight scenes were rather lengthy but what the heck, it just added to the "EPIC" proportions of the film. If you think that the LOTR films were long, maybe you should watch "Dances With Wolves" again..., yeah I know you've seen it.... :)

I thought it was amazing, Lord of the Rings that is...

Oh, no doubt that it is amazing. And why does 'epic' inherintly include 'long ass' as part of its description? Length of movies ... well an hour generally isn't enough to tell a good story, and three hours makes the viewers restless before it's over. Something in the 1:45 to 2:30 range tends to be really effective in portaying a story and not losing the audience's attention along the way.

The fight scenes were great! It was all the walking across open plains, and rambling on about how things are going to be different, and remenising, and ... jeeze they did a lot of talking about nothing. The climax came about 2:15, then the next 45 minutes+ were just long and drawn out.

I think the whole trilogy is really good. I just think it's really too long.

I don't think you understand the meaning of epic, and that rambling your talking about is the story. Fight scenes are cool, but they don't really tell a story. Also, if you can't sit through a long movie, then you shouldn't be going to them. I personally think that the extended versions are much better, and further flesh out the story. I don't think it's right to take out so much of the story, just because some people can't sit still.;)
 
Saw it last night. 10:30pm showing. Yes, I crawled into bed at 2:30am.

This trilogy does a much better job at tying up the loose ends in the third movie than another recent trilogy tried to.

Go see it. Watching it at home won't do it justice. On a side note, if you have a problem with Spiders, be warned you'll get your share of them in this movie. I managed to live through it without nightmares, Had to close my eyes at a few points to do it.

I agree that the extended versions (which weigh in at 3.5 and just under 4 hours respectively.) are far better with the extra storyline. I loved knowing that Aragorn was 87, the Hobbits singing, and that Gimli falls in love with Galadriel.
 
i saw it yesterday. a really good movie, better than the other movies. but there were quite a few things that i had imagined diferent, and some places were they didnt follow the book. but other than taht it was great.

i thought shelob was too small. i had imagined her way bigger. but oh well.. she was kinda kreepy anyway.
 
It's almost as if you're all proud of yourselves for sitting through a rediculously long movie.Congradulations, but it's not necassary.

The slow motion in the battle scenes were just dumb, dragging out the movie without purpose. And the reunion around Frodo's bed with the characters coming in one by one in slow motion without sound was rediculous. I felt through the majority of the third movie that they were doing everything they could to make it as long as possible.

:lol: Gotta laugh! On a side note, I left the movie saying, "gawd that movie sucked" loud enough so that people around me could hear. I was doing a little test to see if I would get knifed in the back! No knifings occured, but I did get looks of death by surrounding movie watchers as we left. There was a pregnant woman sitting next to me in the theatre, she said it was long, but well worth it. She didn't complain about it so why are you being such a whimp? :D
 
I dunno. The first two were good. They didn't seem as long as this one. There just seemed to be an exorbinent amount of "nothing going on".
 
I saw it today with my school. There was a big sigh of relief at the end. I think everyone thought it was going to end when the screen dimmed after when sam and frodo passed out on the side of mount doom, post-ring destroying. But it then went on for about another 1/2 hour.
I liked the battle scenes, but the parts between seemed dull. I understand they have to set the scene, but it was annoying how sam and frodo were crying their eyes out and then it would jump to an almighty battle.

See, that's what I'm talking about. It was just too much. Beyond the point of required into the realm of "where have you gone? this is getting old"
 
I'm going to see it in 2 hours. We went up to the theater at 11:30 today and got our tickets.:D
 
Ok, just got home from the theater. I must say I think that was the best of the three movies. I loved every bit of it, and for anyone who hasn't seen it.... DO IT NOW! It felt like it was longer than the other two, does anyone know the run time for it?
 
Saw it yesterday, it was good. One thing that gets me is that they just all survive too much. They must've been faced with death millions of times and yet escape.:irked: Also, they do a lot of falling over when they're trying to fight. Like that spider....
 
well i saw LOTR: ROTK just 2 days ago, all and all i thought it was alright, except like how everyone said, the end part. what i found very amusing was all those "love" scenes those love triangles between shmigal sam and frodo, it seems everyone in the theather would snicker at those those, especially at the end how LoudMusic mentioned, the reuinion at the bed with frodo i found that scene very.... questionable to what it looked like :lol: :lol: other than that i found the scene where aragon goes to the mountains to recruit the dead soldiers, i found that to be my favorite scene just because i couldnt wait to see them in action, gosh were they cool, all in all i thought all 3 LOTR's were good in equal amounts

my favorite part occurs right after that when that dwarf (can't remember his name) says "that only count's as one!" :lol:

It was a great movie but they did stretch it out too long.

I believe you are referring to Gimli. That was my favorite part too.

I kind of wish Jackson had not cut out the part about how the hobbits save the Shire from Saruman and Wormtongue. It would have made the ending better(It was still great without) but then there would have been an additional 20 minutes or so. It is supposed to be in the Extended DVD I hear though.
