Yep - I have finished the game within 6-7 hours. I was playing on Normal mode, though, but nevertheless, it was still quite challenging.

I'll write a better opinion of the game when I can tomorrow.

7 hours? So it was true, whats the draw to the game if its 7 hours and $60???

That's what I'm thinking. I need a game with that price to last me a month, not a day.

I'll wait until I can rent it or get it in the bargain bin w/ NFS Carbon.

Well, there are Hard and Easy modes to play through, and there are these "target marks" you collect on each mission to unlock achievements, but that's all there is to re-playing the game really. I don't think the story or gameplay has the "oomph" of Gears of War. Hell, I've played that game 4 times through already. Lost Planet, however, I may only play through again on Hard mode, and that's it... It was easy at first, but towards the end, it started to get very tricky... The only problem with the game I found was the controls, which got a little fiddly at times. Say, when you are in a rush to get an a VS, you press B at the wrong time and you unattach a weapon off the machine, when you were meant to get on it. This time you spend fiddling around could mean your death, so it was a little annoying.

I mainly bought this game for the online modes. I've not tried them out yet, but from the demo, it seemed great fun. It supports up to 16 players, which is plently on the maps they supply. I downloaded a 9th map, which is only available for people who buy the Limited Edition box. My local Tesco priced the game wrong, so I got it for £40 when it was meant to be £45. :)

The graphics and sound, put simply, are stunning. Probably not up to Gears of War's standards close-up, but the effects of blowing weaker structures up with grenades and rocket launchers is pretty satisfying, and the huge Akrid bosses are detailed and great run. It's rare a game gets my heart pumping, but those bosses did...

Overall, I would give it a 7.5/10, but that may sway either way when I get a chance to play online.

Edit: Oh, and the extra content with the Limited Edition isn't really much. The box is still a box - not even a tin. The art book is rather small, and you get this CD to put into your computer for sound tracks and wallpapers and alike. It is nothing like the content you got from the Gears of War tin.

Edit 2: I just realised there is an Extreme Mode. This mode is IMPOSSIBLE to do. The end boss of the first mission is way too hard, as your energy drops quickly and you are fighting against several other Akrid at the same time. If anyone can do this, I salute you!

im playing through for the first time on hard and the final boss on the first level is hard. anybody that says this game was too easy didnt play it on hard or extreme.

Same here. I'll rent it for sure. I should've rented GoW too because as much as I liked it I haven't played it much since I got it (I got Splinter Cell DA and rented MotoGP 2006 around the same time). But I like the look of Lost Planet and liked the demo so it's on my list. But as I don't have time to play games that much I doubt I'll get many achievements from it.

I agree with this entire reply. You also saved me from typing everything. I also beat the game within 6-7 hours and it is not easy. It starts out fairly easy and slow but towards the end it is very intense. Realy starts picking up after level 6.
The explosions and main boss enemies are absolutely incredible. The graphics like you said are very close to GOW but not quite. However I do think Lost planet pushes the xbox360 more than GOW because a couple times I saw well over 75 enemies and the frame rate ran real smooth. I cant say enough how amazed I was with the explosions. My jaw dropped a few times and yes there were quite a few heart pounding intense moments. I personally love huge boss battles and this game had TONS of them. As a matter of fact you will run into huge enemies all the time in this game which is very exciting. Some of the regular enemies you run into are so huge you feel like you are fighting a main boss over and over again. Very fun. Imagine 3-4 Corpsers (large spider from GOW) on the screen at the same time. Now add about 10-20 other akrid enemies coming at you AND add 5-6 mechs shooting at you. That is how you describe this game. I think the mission 9 boss was my favorite. Also the huge spider boss that wraps you in webs. Forgot which level it was on. Maybe the spider one was on level 10.
I played the multiplayer for a few hours and its just like the demo. So if you like the multiplayer demo then you will like the full version online. The only problem is during the game you cant tell who is talking. So if someone is racist or rude you have no way to mute them.
In conclusion I say this is an extremly good rental. Its not a game I would buy to play over and over again because at some points it is quite boring. The story cinemas even get very boring at times. But the main boss enemies, huge akrid, and unbelievable explosions will make this rental an experience you will never forget. 👍 👍 8/10

I've played online quite a bit over the weekend, and I'll have to be honest that it's a little worse than I thought it would be. Matches that are full seem to lag a bit. This isn't too much of an issue, but the thing that annoys me the most is when someone WILL NOT DIE, even after 100s of shots have apparently hit the other player on my screen, whereas they kill me more quickly. It isn't just me either - a few people speaking into mics were complaining about the same thing. When there are less players, though, this seems to be reduced.

If you play on the harder modes, there is a lot more going on, so there is some slowdown. Mission 3 in particular, when there are 2 Akrid Worms in the snow. When one of them does an attack to send tonnes of snow into the air, the framerate slows down to almost a hault. But yeah, overall, the framerate is very solid.

Earlier today I decided to collect all the Target Markers as well (admittidly, looking through a walkthough on the website Games Radar) to get some more achievements. I gave up in the end, as it is seriously tedious to go searching for them all. I swear some of the ones they mentioned wern't on the map. In Gears of War, the COG tags were much easier to find, which suited me better.

Sadly, I will probably sell the game pretty soon, as I don't think any of it has a lasting appeal. It was fun while it lasted.

did you guys play this on hard ???
I am up to Mission 5, yes. Everything is quite a bit harder, especially the bosses. But once you have their moves and attacks figured, you will eventually beat them.

I am not looking forward to how hard the later Missions will be...

I only rented it so I played through on normal. Since you only rented it you should play throught the rest of the game on at least easy or normal. Lost Planet is a game you must play through at least once all the way to the end to truly enjoy. It really picks up after level 6. I would hate to see you miss out on some of the incredible boss enemies because you were playing on hard and couldnt make it to the end. You could easily go back through the game again on hard after you beat it on normal or easy. It allows you to pick any level you want and replay it again. Once I beat it I went back through level and 9 and 10 just for the boss battles. After that I was completely tired of the game. lol
