Can anyone give me advice?

It feels like the collision penalties are so random. Put that together with an unstable car, and you got a recipe for an anxiety attack.. Or atleast a DFGT flying out the window and hating anything that has to do with Lotus and Top Gear.

Any good assist settings? Or steering sensitivity settings?

ABS on 1. Took me around 20 tries but got it done. You can bump a good bit but don't be afraid to go on the outside a lot.

the tuning or whatever of that lotus is horrible. I would say learn to do the lotus powerslide lol. basically hard braking till the nose pivots twords inside of turn then gas. Its hard to explain, take an elise around tsukaba an youll learn it quick

Because the challenge is using comfort soft tyres it handles like crap. If you're using a wheel try left foot braking and keeping a bit of throttle on. You should find that this will help keep the backend a little more stable. You will have to experiment to find what works for you, but this certainly helped me clear this event.

Thereafter you are of course at the mercy of the collision disqualification...

Just practice, the Lotus actually handles very well and it's a really good lesson to take. Remember the CPU always takes the same route.

After trying the thing to death and finally managing a silver trophy I discovered that the collision penalties are usually triggered by either a STRONG impact which means a direct hit to another car and/or at a high rate of speed or any collision that happens WHILE you're accelerating.

I noticed that after brushing the side of another lotus (even with a significant impact) as long as I was coasting through and not on the throttle I wouldn't get disqualified.

After I figured that out all it took was to get used to the crappy comfort tires and that was it.

The problem is the tire choice. The best advice I can give is to avoid contact, brake late, and don't put too much emphasis on overtaking mid-corner, it can lead to some hairy moments.

ITS LIKE DRIVING IN ICE
top gear challenge maked me soo angry
i dont have any advice i tried soo hard to get to third

The collision penalties seem to only kick in when you pass a certain threshold or involve the front half of your car.

Play with some other FR cars, use a manual and memorize the AI's movements. The AI cars always take the same paths so you can easily predict if you have it the first time out of Chicago.

As best I can remember:
1.) Brake late on the first turn and gently slide the your back half into the first car. There's your first pass, maybe the second also.
2.) Cut in between the next one or two cars on the way to Chicago. Take the turn on the inside and there's another pass.
3.) Feather it and get straight-line acceleration out. This spot is where you might get passed from the left but you can gently maintain contact with them and it gives a weird assistance.
4.) Draft up to Hammerhead.
5.) Brake late into Hammerhead. There's some cones you can run down and actually cut across part of the corner earning you some passes. Otherwise, gently use the other cars to physically brake your way around the turn.
6.) Again, keep it clean on the exit and don't acceleration until you're straight.
7.) Don't go flat out on the Follow-through. Downshift to engine brake it.
8.) Shift up, draft, dab the brakes and arc it into Bentley.
9.) Adjust your direction early for Bacharach. You should be turning before the AI starts. You'll get one or two more passes here.
10.) Your speed will still be decent so on the way to Gambon, you'll get another pass.
11.) Starting the second lap, you should be in 4th place. By Chicago, you can be in 1st place.

Good luck, the last Top Gear challenge is a cakewalk!

Brake early and in a straight line, you can brake a bit late, but only apply throttle after you stop braking. That's how I got my gold.

brake balance
4/2

adjust it on the fly since you have DFGT it should be no problem
that way rear end is more stable at corner entry

it took me about 30-40min to gold it

First tried this when I first got GT5 a month ago or so and bronzed it. Went back 2 nights ago out of boredom and got gold on the 2nd try. Using a controller also, so no idea the difficulty level with a wheel, figured it would be easier with a wheel.

I think the Nascar events are easier now than when i first did them a month ago also. I golded all of them in 30minutes or so.

Practice, patience and driving like a loony helps here, I couldn't gold it to save my life to start with, tried it again later on (with TC on1) and golded it with ease.
You can take the corners so much quicker than th AI cars, so use them to overtake 3 or 4 cars in one go :)

The Lotus challenge is actually pretty easy when you put all the aids on... It was impossible for me, like ice skating, but I read here in a post to put all the aids on, and golded the first time, the car will go slower but won't loose grip like now, and as someone stated above, the others drivers follow the same line, pretty easy to pass them braking late. So try to put all the aids on and give it another try ( I'm using a G25, not a DS3)
