Just been thinking - Lotus; Esprit, Eclat, Excel, Elan, Elise, Europa, Elite and Exige. What's up with that then?

That's because E is such a cool letter.

J on the other hand...

Why do all of Adam Sandler's movie character names end in "y"?

Because it's "cutesy". Think about how many girl names end in the y or ie sound. How many child nicknames are their proper name with a y on the end.

Angela - Angie
Trisha - Trishy
Elizabeth - Bethy
John - Johnny
Richard - Ricky

And youth is assocated with fun and ignorance. Hence, Adam Sandler. Or little Adamy ... ok maybe not.

I'm not asking for an explanation! I'm trying to make people think!

:p

How come you've missed out one of the most famous Lotuses (Lotii?) of all time? The Seven (obviously with the silent initial e)

Ha. In "The Wedding Singer," Adam's character is called Robbie. With an "ie" not a "y".

So, nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah. :dopey:

Uhm... the 7? Your luck's run out :D

And erh, uhh... the Excel as I remember is is a s***ty little hatchback from the 80's made by Hyundai.

Nah, you're thinking Elantra. Close, but a few letters short.

This is the Excel I know.

And this is the only Elite I can think of

"insert deity of choice" bless Google.

Lotus Excel.

My parents nearly bought a Lotus Elite when I was a nippa ;) Ended up with a Citroen CX, nice car until it rusted.

Famine
M250, Carlton and Cortina. You lose.

You're right on the M250, but the Carlton is an Opel and the Cortina is a Ford. But you can also throw the Omega, Gemini, Bighorn, Impulse, and I-Mark in there too :sly:

Alright smug-arse. The M250 doesn't count, it wasn't a production model (and could be the concept for the new Esprit - eventually) and the Carlton and Cortina were both made by other manafacturers, as The359 said. The Seven doesn't start with an 'E', obviously, but it's interesting (in a strangely uninteresting kind of a way) how many of their cars do.

Check the Vehicle Registration Document... Manufacturer: Lotus (at least for the Lotus Carlton/Omega).

You could probably throw in the Lotus Talbot Sunbeam too.

chaser_fan - The M250 did make it to production, in two variants, no less. However, most manufacturers have a naming gimmick. Maserati went through a phase of naming all their cars after winds - I was waiting for the Maserati Curryfart, but it never appeared.

PunkRock - Lotus also built the Tommy kaira ZZ-S. Strange but true.

Ha. The Maserati Curryfart ... Would make a nice chrome badge on the boot lid.

I'm quite pleased that no-one has spotted/said the obvious joke yet. So allow me...

Yes it does. Well done. And why are you telling Kelly that?

We spotted it, but were too polite to say it.

I hope you're ashamed of yourself now...

Um, that was kind of the point of the title - don't worry daan, I know you're a bit behind the rest of us up there in Bonnie Scotland! Runs and hides

EDIT: I like the whole Curryfart name and am disappointed that no manafacturer has ever used it! Maybe Maserati should follow your lead, Famine. They could also produce a Guff, Ripper, Parp, Tailwind or Honker to add to the lineup! I'm sure the Italian versions of these words actually sound quite attractive.

Why not indeed? There is a Lamborghini "**** me!" (rough translation of "Countach" from the Piedmontese dialect).

I'd love to see a Mitsubishi Air Biscuit.
