Hi,

I have a racing series with my friends, but each time we met up we are having the same problem with different people not being able to connect / stay in lounge / lobby.

An example:

Yesterday, my friend from Ireland 'Napa' was in the open lobby, another friend (also from Ireland) 'Herb' couldn't get in. I started a new room and 'Herb' got in but 'Napa' couldn't??

This is happening each time we meet up. There doesn't seem to be a pattern of who can and can't get in, when I start a new room some people who were in the old room can't join the new one, but some people who couldn't join the old room can get in the new one??

We have encountered the same problem both in a private lounge and in open lobby online.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on or how to fix this??

Does anyone else have this problem with their race series??

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

I have tried to reduce the settings of the room i.e. reducing number of players allowed, voice chat quality set to low etc but we're still having this problem.

We had 6 people trying to join yesterday from all over Europe, but none could get in, but we had people from all over the world already connected to the room.

Can anyone help??

My NAT is '2' and quality varies between HIGH and NORMAL.

EDIT: Forgot to say, I've searched GTP, all I could find was this thread:

I've sent a link to this to my friends, but the problem still persists.

Many thanks

There seem to be so many factors that affect this including the ones you talk about and that thread you posted is useful for ideas...one thing...have you tried changing the race quality when you set up your lounge/room to low or very low...this seems to help with connection issues...though it does have an affect on the appearance of other cars on the road that appear a bit jumpy...due to the reductions in the amount of data being transferred but its a small price to pay to keep everyone in the game.

Cool, many thanks for your response.

Yes, I have tried to reduce this, but I don't think I've set it to it's lowest settings, next time I will set everything to 'minimum' settings and see if this helps.

You mentioned the appearance possibly being affected, do you mean the 'physical' appearance of the 'jumpy' cars will be lesser or do you mean that by setting race quality to low, more cars will 'jump' about as if there was 'lag'??

Thanks

Are they from the Republic of Ireland?
If so do they have eircom broadband?

I am from Ireland myself and have eircom broadband .
If they have eircom and are on the old netopia router that eircom supplied then thats the problem( they supply a different router now).
You can't get a proper connection for gaming on that router.
They need to go buy a different router .

Cool, that's really appreciated info 👍

Yeah, I'll feed that back to them and see what they say, many thanks for your help.

The Irish guys also suffered a different problem, their cars were not appearing on track, they were in the room, they could enter free practice and races, but they were literally 'invisible' to some other people in the room when they were on track, they simply did not appear in any way, shape or form.

We thought they were taking 'stealth' cars to a new level!!!!

:D

Well those netopia routers are a problem if they are using them.
Iv'e been gaming on pc for years and iv'e seen it over and over and even had the problem myself.

As far as I understand it and experienced it so far, if you set your room to 'very low' quality then each drivers own driving experience will be smooth and the track graphics as sharp as on other settings. What it affects is the amount of data you are receiving about the position of the other drivers. The lower the quality, the less data is transferred, so the frames per second is reduced so other cars can appear up close 'shaky'. The upside of this is that with less data being transferred, drivers are less likely to lose connection and more drivers can race without 'data overload' if you know what I mean.

Saying all that, I am sure that with some more research, you can have a situation where the quality remains normal or above with little or no issues. As well as sorting local issues, it must be remembered that the state of the servers can create all sorts of problems. Online gaming still remains a work in progress.

I will be checking some of the DMZ stuff etc that was mentioned in that other thread you posted..also clearing the system cache in the main options regularly is supposed to help...:)

I think it would be very helpful for the community if all information regarding 'improving your online experience' can be collated in a thread somehow...
