Lowering springs; are they really that bad?

I suppose I do. However, I'm sure someone will have more an issue with referring to the STi or Evo as "ricers" just b/c they're from Japan.

ok... sorry people... the tl isn't really a ricer... i would work with one if i got the option... i'm just not a big fan of cutting the springs out of your car, stripping out the interior and sticking a coffee can on the exhaust pipe. that's not proper tuning.

yeah... forgot about some of those... i mainly work with european cars, which look stunning with bbs or o-z... i'm not a big fan of ricers except the evo ix and subie sti.

Statements like these show you're either ignorant, retarded or haven't seen enough cool stuff.. Japanese cars also look stunning when they don't have crap wheels :)

I greatly disagree. In fact I'd say next to stock suspension, coilovers ride MUCH better than simple lowering springs, while being perfectly comfortable.

Basically, you get what you pay for. The End.

Most coil-overs are made for track use. Which means the springs have an ungodly spring rate. While you can adjust the shock damping, you can't get around the jitters brought about by the springs.

While I have heard of coilovers that ride better than stock... those are usually for cars with ungodly stiff stock suspensions (*cough* Honda *cough*). On cars with proper damping, like Fords and Mazdas, they just ruin the ride.

They can be made almost comfortable, mind you... but I don't like them. Haven't met a set with spring rates I like, yet.

Won't disagree with you about them being better than just sticking on lowering springs... but I feel that adjustable rate shocks are all anybody really needs...

Most coilovers are NOT made for the track, unless you live in the past. More or less all sets you get for Golfs and other cars coilovers start at $400 for are made for road use. A buddy has the cheapest FKs on his cars, he's got about 10-15 threads left I think, they're firm but not stiff.. If you didn't know, you wouldn't think it's lowered.
