Once in a while, a rap CD comes out with something totally fresh (in terms of music production and album sound) such as N*E*R*D's "In Search Of," Outkast's "Aquemini," Aaliyah's self titled album, The Fugee's "The Score," Kanye West's "College Dropout," Dr. Dre's "The Chronic," the Men In Black soundtrack, and Slick Rick's "The Art of Storytelling."

Well, after listening to Lupe Fiasco's first single "Kick Push" off his MySpace, I think his first album coming out early next year "Food & Liquor" is gonna be a hit. The subject matter (in this song) isn't about bling, it's a comparative metaphor between true love and skateboarding. The production sounds like where he comes from...very "Chicagoan."

He has another song called "Failure" which has that jazzy vibe to it too along with "Much More." He's a protege of Kanye West (of his music production) and a good friend of Jay-Z.

The kinda music coming out of this artist has that underground vibe to it but with a sort of confidence that comes from a mainstream artist.

I'm surprised nobody has replied yet, just shows how many people actually know good hip-hop when they hear it. I've been listening to Revenge Of The Nerds a lot lately and it's now one of my fav albums. Anyone who wants to hear lupe for themselves can get the R.O.T.N mixtape HERE

Song worth mentioning are Much More(feat. Yummy Bingham), Mean and Vicious, Conflict Diamonds and Handcuffs(which is my favourite hip-hop song)

ps:I'm not violating any ToS by giving u links to illegally obtain music, thats Lupe Fiascos own files he's sharing with anyone who wants them.

Just downloaded the mixtape. Listening to it now, but at the moment I'm not hearing anything special. Not really to my taste.

hate to bump old threads, but the new cd "the cool" is pretty damn good. you can probbaly find the songs on youtube or myspace if you wanna listen.

of course you really don't hear alot from this guy charts wise (yes I know his album sales are good, we're talking about singles in comparison to other "rap" songs). But hes awsome.

Music is objective. What you think is good won't be the same as others.

Although, Lupe Fiasco isn't doing it for me.

aesop rock > lupe fiasco

Oh man Aesop Rock is terrible. Their lyrics sound like fairy tales (hence their name) and the beats sound like they took about 3 minutes to put together.

I think Lupe is alright; there were 2 or 3 really good songs on Food & Liquor but i still haven't listened to The Cool. I listened to it's single though, and i didn't really dig it.

HIS lyrics are definitely interesting. his beats are some of the most creative and unique in hip hop. i dont know what songs youre listening to but most of his production has much more depth and different elements than 99% of artists today.

this is true. his attitude led me to quip back. not like it matters anyway though, seeing as these things were said like 3 years ago.
