Well he's finally made the Windows (and Linux) versions of Lux.

previous thread ...

It's a great alternative style Risk game on the computer. Lots of fun. Though the Windows version is broken, nearly as I can tell. You'll need to go into the directory it installs to and open the .jar file, as the shortcuts that the installer makes are 'broken'.

My favorite part is the random map generator. The maps usually aren't wonderful, but being able to play a different map every game makes it so much better. And with a light bit of editing the random maps can be tweaked into really good maps.

Wow indeed... I've just ordered this game and it is fantastic! :sly:

I can't wait until this evening to have a proper game - the downloadable scenarios are great as well - I played the demo version last night and did the WWII Europe scenario... great fun! I'm thinking of trying to make my own map, possibly of Scotland, or London! Now there's an idea!

Just to add to this, I have now mastered the Map Editor to a reasonable extent and have made a couple of maps... I made one of London boroughs, but it was really crap, but last week I made one of Middle Earth (using a cool map I found on-line) which was not bad at all. And yesterday I made one using a floor plan of my workplace, and it is fantastic (even if I do say so myself :p )...

I can't recommend this game highly enough!! I'm about to start making one using a plan of my University, which could work out really well...

Here are some links to the pics I used:-

Just made a new one this afternoon:- Colditz Castle :D

Went to have a quick game of Lux last night and upgraded to the new version. Not substantially different, but quite a few excellent new maps have been added since the last time I played, including a map of Scotland (albeit with some horrendous typos). The Vietnam War is still a good place to start, but it's hard to beat the "Classic" map (the original "Risk" map). In Lux, however, you can create up to 5 AI opponents, and define their AI (even download new AI's to suit your needs.) Currently, I'm playing against 3 easy and 2 intermediate AI's, and have named the teams in order to play a global holy war between atheists (that's me :D ), Hindus, Islamists, Evangelicals, Roman Catholics and Communists :p The game I had last night was hilarious. The Hindus retreated to India (no kidding!) and the Communists were holed up in South America... but the two main players (other than my Atheist Army, with Australia as my base!) were the Catholics, who held most of Europe, and the Evangelicals, who had North America. Eventually, I took control of Asia and it was game over....

Today's game, the battle for Scotland - can the SNP fend off Labour, Tories, LibDems, the Green Party and new kids on the block, Islamic Jihad?!?

P.S. The AI names are not created by me but are in the game itself, however they seem curiously appropriate!

edit: Just played the game... Islamic Jihad won  Come back, Alex Salmond... all is forgiven :nervous:
