Lvl 20 damage unlock FINALLY debunked

I don't understand people saying things like "I'm level 20 and haven't seen any damage at all even after really severe crashes."

The first thing I did was take a CR-Z on Trial Mountain in arcade mode when I started up the game. At one point I understeered and nicked a wall, and guess what. There was damage.

There's been damage from the very beginning for me in all modes. Not crazy cars falling apart damage, but scrapes and dents and all that, definitely noticeable.

I can't tell if it's becoming less resilient at higher levels, but it's possible.

I suggest EVERYONE go online with one of your premium cars and start smashing it around. The damage in GT5 is great and I never experience it until I was racing online and noticed how just a small hit of the wall will dent your car. Im at level 15 and if I smash any one of my cars (haven't tried a standard one yet though) they all damage just as bad.

Yes Sir Online is where it is at as soon as you hit your car gets messed up, damage looks pretty good, I wish I could put my pictures up of the cars.

It seems it depends on the track too. My R34 got damage on some track but not another during the same championship series after the same type of crashes

What that article doesn't make clear is that damage does, in fact, intensify as the player progresses to higher levels. Yes, damage does occur right from the beginning, but at that point the deformation is so understated that it's pretty much unnoticeable.

I would assume your exposure to cars that show damage increases as you level, not so much the other way around. The whole leveling to unlock damage thing (and all it's irrational reasonings why they would do it that way and how it's best that they did it that way) was just ridiculous to being with although 3 types of damage is kind of silly too... for years we have heard about how some cars in Forza are harder to damage than others... where's that same hatred now?

IF damage is not here, chances are the devs are hiding something that is very flawed with their game until a patch can be made to fix it. I watched the videos on youtube showing crazy damage and doors flying open and flippage, but i have yet to see this in a user made video. They release a game h/a and maximize on the profits before finally getting around to fixing something. Its the "lets see how well it sells to see if its worth fixing approach." just my two cents

All I drive are premium cars, and I've done some dumb things and I've yet to see more than a slight deformation on the bumper. You can't even tell you drove 150 mph into a wall. They did a poor job on damage in the game. Just another aspect I come in deeply disappointed. You don't add damage if it's going to be crap. Oh a little blemish... Might as well not be there!

I seriously don't understand what some you guys are talking about. I drive a ZR-1 Corvette and If I slam that thing into a wall going 80-150mph I get some serious damage. Anything lower that 80mph just scratches and dirtys up the paint.

Last night I was in a online lobby just free run for about 1.5hrs with the ZR-1 and by the time it was over my front bumper and sides smashed to hell. The sides of the car were all black, the back bumper was about to fall off. I wouldn't want any more damage to the car or I wouldn't even recognize it.

BTW we were just messing around, I don't actually drive that bad to begin with lol :D

Same here man 👍 My boy crashed his Evo the rear light was smashed up with the bumper pushed in I was like  cant wait for the mechanical damage update.

It must unlock at some point, I'm at level 15 and haven't seen any sign of damage, and I've done some horrific things with my cars.

Me too. I was kinda hoping it did unlock. Ive had some pretty big offs and some big shunts when the silly AI decides to brake halfway round a corner for no reason. I cant see so much as a scratch...

Sorry guys, but more damage ' rumours ' ( altough this has a credible source )

This is from a norwegian source posted on thr 26'th who asked the important, ' when will we see the damage model promised ? ' damage will be implemented in a patch due to be released the first week of december ' says Kazunori Yamauchi.

This question was asked by a Norwegian reporter during the launch party in Madrid.

the source is here, ( in norwegian ) ( this seems to be damage that effects engine, stearing and such.. )

on my RMd Evo I had damage on my front and rear when I ran into someone just to see it the damage work... and I must say I'm on level 14 and my Evo was in bad shape... if you don't believe me go try it yourself...

P.S.

I don't know why Sony has to come up with explanation about damage on cars...

Welcome to the planet, sirhershalot. We ask that all members type with proper grammar and avoid textspeak like "u" or "y". I edited your post to clean it up, so just follow on like that from now on, and enjoy your stay!

The damage is there, I was going around the Wangan a couple of nights ago with an immature crowd, I noticed my RUF Yellowbird would get deformed every time someone hit the car . I Really don't see why everyone is complaining.

I did this at around level 3 or 4:

Visual damage is there from the beginning.

This is insane. Some say they get damage from the start, others don't get any at all. It's like there are different versions of the game out there or something.

Is there any point in repairing the damage? will repairing damage make your car more stable or anything? It cost alot but not sure if it does anything. Im pretty piss poor in the game and don't want to repair just for the hell of it.

Same goes for engine overhaul. Anyone notice a difference?

Part of the issue is probably speed of impact. People are more likely to have a very high speed collision at higher levels, when they've got faster, less stable cars than at the beginning when most collisions are occuring at less than 80km/h and the cars are more progressive in their handling.

There's a simple reason for this... the damage isn't very good. Whatever triggers is isn't consistent and most shunts and bumps aren't enough for noticeable deformation. To get anything even remotely severe you have to intentionally crash your car repeatedly. Nothing to do with the level, it's just that some people are trying for the damage, and some aren't.

My theory on why this is: the pictures released on Kotaku showing more severe damage looked terrible, the cars had either been attacked with a Photoshop liquify filter or melted under the virtual sun. The comments were not good and PD decided that toning the damage down would be better than risking more bad press for the crappy modeling.

Now it's been toned down and they've got some time, maybe they'll work on it. Set some limits to stop it looking like the Joker's makeup and lower the force needed to create noticeable body deformation. This is what I'm guessing they're doing right now if that website about the December update is to be believed.

Going 25 mph into a brick wall or into another car should cause some severe damage...
