Hey

I was having a debate today with my friend George at school about the BMW M5 and the M3 (real-life, not in game). I said that the M5 is best because it's value for money. You get a 200MPH 4-door saloon with 500HP from a V10 for just £60,000. But he said the M3 was better because he said "It's not about value for money, it's about coolness!!!" Then some other guys in the class joined in and they all preferred the M3 as well.

That got me thinking: Which do you like best on GT4? The M3 or M5? Personally, I go for the M5, because it looks better, it sounds better and, again, it's value for money.

What do YOU think?

I prefer the M5. Its fun to beat sports cars in a sedan. I just prefer the brute power of the M5 over the M3, regardless of the M3 being better suited to the track.

I personaly like both, But if I had to Choose.. It would be the M3.
I just like the look! It is cooler. The M5 just looks like a Regular Sedan that a Middle aged Rich Bloke would drive.
The M5 is More of a sports sedan and Could take the M5 any day! The M5 is just to big to look like a racer or "Fast car"

I would actualy prefer the pre "90's" M3
My friend has an 88 E30

VERY FAST!!!:dopey:

I prefer the M3, it's sex on wheels. M5 is nice but it's just looks brutish, like the 7 Series. The M3 is so sexy and nimble, looks like a gentlemans car but hides the heart of a thoroughbred horse. Heck I'll be purchasing an M3 in the near future.

And that car preceeding my post is hella ugly, the new M3 makes that car look like buffalo chips.

My vote would be with the M3, prefer the looks and the lighter weight and smaller size does have it benefits.

Still would not say no to either if anyone's giving them away.

The E30 M3s do look very nice, but the 'Very Fast' bit is a bit much for the standard car in this day and age. As Fifth gear found when they did a head to head with an E30 M3 and Intergrale, both were very slow (in terms of lap times) in comparison to modern cars, as Tiff Needell said, things have moved on a lot since the '80s.

Fifth Gear Lap Times (scroll down quite a bit for the E30 M3 - its 43rd)

Still in its day it was a true monster.

I prefer the M3, particularly the GTR race car. The new M5 (and most of BMW's new cars, come to that) are just horrendous styling-wise, in my opinion. I think the M5 is a great car in terms of engine and engineering, but it's ugly as sin. The current M3, on the other hand, is very nice.

hmmm...

In-game: The M5. PD ruined the E46 M3, it drives nothing like it does in real life. The E60 M5 I can't speak for, as I've never driven one.

Real-life: The E46 M3. I have an E30 (M20B27 I6)and an E21 (M10B18 I4), so I am very particular to my 3's. :)

Although I wouldn't complain if someone wanted to give me an E34 M5, in black please. Definately the most understated M5 made. And with the bigger 3.4 Euro engine. Please?

m3. this is purely based off styling though. the m5 is horribly ugly when compared to the m3. i would rather drive a sexy car, than a faster ugly-ass one

M3 gets my vote.
The M5 is too big, and although its sport-lux, I don't see it being at home on the track. Its more of a "park it in front of the office to look like a big dog" kinda thing.
The M3 looks like it would be at home on the track or in the drive way, plus, the lines of it are sexier and sportier then the M5 in my opinion.

For the engine: The M5.
For everything else: The M3!
I´m not really into 4 door saloons that much, so a two door wins any day.

I love em both!!

If it were for track use its th M3, the CSL of I could choose :dopey:

But for an everyday car I think the M5 is one of the greatest cars ever... it's an hard choice but I voted for the M5

I love them both...I would take any M5 over an E36 or E46 M3, but the E30 M3 is above them all...it's simply the greatest car on the planet, as far as I'm concerned.

But it's certainly not the fastest, like Scaff said. With only 200/240hp on tap from its naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder, and a 0-60 time of 6.5/6.1 seconds, it's only as fast as an "ordinary" modern sports sedan...the 300+ horse racing versions did better, though, doing the same 0-60 run in as little as 4 seconds. Not bad for a naturally-aspirated 2.5L inline-4. :)

You have no soul. :P

Well this is a very simple question to answer. The M5 is the obvious choice. Sure the M3 may be more tactile, A better drivers car and all the rest of it but i live in england. A country full of speed cameras and policeman eager to fill there wallets with the hard earnt cash from folk like me and you. In a M3 you are going to push your luck to much of the time where in a M5 you can drive in comfort, cruise along and still be in the know that if anybody does throw down the gauntlet you can be assured that with a short prod of the go pedal and you will blow pretty much everything away.

Also if anybody has been lucky enough to hear a New M5 first hand (fortunately i have as there is one living around where i live) then owning an M5 and hearing that engine is reason enough to justify the purchase of a M5 over a M3

Spec....

I like the M5 better.
I really like the look of them, and they sound fantastic. I've seen 2 over the last 3-4 weeks.

M3 yeah, the M5 is too big, it's why I hate pick ups too:yuck:

M5 is more style WITH a nice engine.

M3 is a very nice engine for enormous speed and style WITH it.

There's a difference in between there:tup: M5 is all fancy stuff while the M3 is nothing but engine, nothing else is wicked about it. Like the Porsche BTR compared to newer Porsche Cabrio's....exactly the same thing there.

New porsches are all fancy crap stuff, but the '90 models, the BTR for example (dunno exactly if it was the '90s for this car) is not equiped with the stupid fancy stuff, just a cool engine and cool looks.

Not the car a 70 year old playboy would buy with his 19 year old girlfriend...

While I agree with a preference for an M3 over an M5, simply describing an M3 as all engine is selling short the work done to ensure the cars 50/50 weight distribution and amazing chassis balance and suspension set-up.

Porsche BTR, must be some mistake. You must mean RUF BTR.

Driven a lot of them to make that statement have we! :)

The 996 and 997 series Porsche 911's have been rated as the finest ever made by the company. Now some air cooled fanatics will instantly dismiss the water colled models, but describing them as "all fancy crap stuff" does smack of air-colled fan-boy.

Evo magazine (who most rate as very well informed) voted the 996 and 997 series as Performance car of the year a number of times.

Also as the 996 series 911 started production in 1998 (which the last time I checked was in the '90s) and is still in production for certain models, does that make it both one of the good models and the 'crap' models?

Well I'm 16 so I can only judge SOME things;) But this sure supports my opinion.

Pretty stupid, a 16 old already judging porsches and RUFS, but well a porsche cabrio isn't at all that cool as a RUF BTR, or some porsches like it.
It's just the rawness of the car, it looks like it has been build for the engine, not a fancy car WITH an engine.
This car was made for an engine instead of the other way around.

At least it looks like that, and thats what matters to me right now;) Till I get to drive the thing offcourse:)

I gotta go with M3 in this case, it looks better than the M5, and from my experience on the game, the M3 was better to handle.

But you wont handle it on the highway m8. I have to agree with your choice, I already did, but you wont drive it for the fastest laptime on the Nurb like you (obviously) did in GT4;)

Fair enough, but as you will discover a great car is much more than just an engine.

Good luck when you start driving.

Well I like the M3 better.

I did a few laps last night in both and while I was about 2 seconds faster is the M5, I like the M3 better.

It's lighter, looks better and is overall a better drive.
