Taurus is dead, and I think the wagon dissapeared with the previous "refresh" in design. Honda and Toyota both killed of their wagons, the Accord and Camry with their redesigns in the late '90s as well.

...Up untill recently, it simply has not been a financially reasonable style to guarantee sales...

Supposedly audi has been testing plus 700hp, RS6 possibly up to 770hp for the past year to see what the engine can handle. Rumours suggest the production version will have 580-600hp.

Thats interesting indeed. I was driving to the library on Wednesday and one of the previous RS6s blew past me while sitting at a corner at a light. That car has one hell of a sound system flowing through the tail-pipes, so I'd hope its predecessor can live up to those standards.

Does Audi even want to sell the R8 at all?

...Well either way, the Taurus is now dead. It isn't coming back. If you want a wagon with the blue-oval on the hood, buy a Freelander. But even then, the Freelander isn't that bad...

Not that bad? The Freelander is awesome. A decent-enough design (far better than "Generic Design #5" that the 500 is), with all the versatility of a wagon. Granted, Ford is so coy to call it an SUV when it is so clearly about as off-road worthy as the Geo Storm, but if Chrysler can call the Pacifica anything other than minivan Ford can take liberties with station wagons. A little Wikipedia fun:

The Freestyle also occupies a niche once dominated by the Ford Country Squire, the 3+ row family station wagon, though there is no known conversion of a Freestyle to fake wood paneling.
Now that is an encyclopedia entry that tells it how it is.

Some of that post is laced with sarcasm, but you'd be surprised to realise what parts actually were.

The new 3.5L V6 makes it a much better vehicle overall, and I believe they are adding the 6-speed automatic based off of the 6T80E as well. The extra power and the extra cogs should make it a far-better alternative to the Pacifica, and IMO something better than the Edge as well.

...I'd still like to see Ford go crazy and stuff both the Freestyle and the Fivehundred with the V8 from the XC90/S80, formerly from the Taurus SHO. It would make them all interesting compeditors to what will be left of the V8-powered W-Bodies from GM, but if they sell them only with AWD, may stay on to make interesting compeditors to the later Zetas and LY-based Dodge and Chrysler models.
