The 1980's called....they want their show back.

I think the only thing that was cool about Magnum P.I. was the Ferrari churning up the grass in the opening sequence. Apart from that, it was a very, VERY boring show.

The intro song was cool, the Ferrari was cooler, and Tom Selleck's mustache was coolest of all. But yes, the show was about as exciting as watching hair grow.

I can't agree with you two on the show though. One of my favorite shows of all time. I have the season 1 & 2 on DVD, and I still like the show as much as I did when I was a kid!

I never saw Selleck as anything formidable. It really was that mustache that made him a hit I think. Man, I gotta grow me one as thick and lustrous and jet-black as that. I'll be ready when mustaches come back into style!

Selleck is not particularly formidable, though I think he's a decent actor from what I've seen of his movie work. What makes him cool is his utter refusal to take himself too seriously. He's very aware of what he is and his limitations and his comfort with that knowledge gives him a disarming appeal.
