Realy unclear. So they plan an update, Get some stuff going. Then the whole thing fails.
Normally (I worked in IT) any change with possible issues should have a back out plan and impact analysis. Seems to me somebody was not realistic in the evaluation of the risk of the update and the need or efficiency of the back out plan and the level of impact.
Have these guys been sitting at home for the last 2 years or something?

Sigh - updates go wrong - it shouldn’t happen but does. The best organisations provide regular updates to affected users whilst services are impacted.

PD could do with posting an update since it is now 7 hours after the point that they had planned to restore the online service

It's interesting, Kaz posted "I apologise" for the delay in Japanese on his Twitter account. All the Japanese people responded with comments along the lines of "No problem, thanks for working hard to improve the game and remove mistakes". All of the English language responses are complaints and people telling him what to do.
Just an interesting cultural difference. I live in Japan and generally people strive to be positive and cheerful.
